“Fantastic hotel, though quite commercial”

Novotel Lisboa

The Novotel is a beautifully presented hotel, with fantastic rooms, which had just been refurbished to a high standard when I stayed there. The flatscreen TVs in the rooms, the enormous beds and the beautiful bathrooms with a choice of showers over the bath were highlights!
The breakfast was brilliant with a wide choice and lots of fresh fruit, the the staff were very helpful, and the level of cleanliness was very good.
The only disapointment was the pool, which was not particularly big, and not particularly beautiful. That said, it was clean, and satisfactory.
There wasn't much of a feel of Portugal about the hotel as it is quite large, and it is a reasonable walk (about 15 mins) to the metro to get into the city centre, but its certainly not remote and I would certainly recommend it.

Stopped over in Lisbon for 2 nights on my way to Cape Verde and decided on this hotel as it was one of the few with an outdoor pool. Overall i was really happy with my choice. Staff were all very friendly especially the guys working at the bar. Although the one negative point was that they were very slow even when the bar was totally empty! The rooms were nice and big but as the last reviewer mentioned, the window was tiny with curtains all along the walls where you expect the rest of the window to be! Made the rooms darker than i would have liked! Also you were unable to open the windows at all. Bathroom was very big with a huge shower head above the bath! Hotel was in an ideal location, 5 mins walk to the metro. You have to walk under a bridge near a busy road to get to the metro but we didnt find this a problem. Loved the fact that it had a pool but everytime a flight flew over, our conversation was interrupted for a few seconds. But this is only a very small complaint. Also the pool itself could do with being a little bit bigger. But overall i would definitely stay here again. Worked out at only €35 each per night through the hotel website. Our room was on the 8th floor so we got to enjoy really good views of the surrounding area!

“Fine, but............”

Fine but............

A bit too 'Open', almost like an airport, Bar area runs into Reception and the Wi Fi at 5 Euro an hour is a bit of a rip off, but then not run by the hotel, so they tell me.

Use 1 minute of your Euro 5 hour, Log Off and your 59 minutes left is gone. They seem to have sockets for PC's in the rooms, but offer 'Loan of Modem', Dial UP in 2007?

The Wi FI in the Bar Area, as above is intermittent, but to be fair to the hotel staff they say it's 'Old' and they intend to upgrade and run their own system 'soon'

The hotel room bathrooms are a mixture of Sea Cruising and Japanese Bath House style, quite nice.

Room, decent size, but bizarrely a very tiny window and a lot of curtains covering a wall where a window should be......I guess bricks are cheaper than large double glazing?

Hotel right on the take off or approach path to Lisbon Airport, so aircraft between 1000 feet (303 Meters) and 1500 feet (454 meters) above you. So if you don't like the idea of this, especially when a fully loaded A340 airplane takes off for South America, very low, don't stay here.

However, the noise is very low, so well insulated which may account for all the brick wall instead of a window, which makes the rooms dark.

Staff friendly and seem to enjoy their job, nice breakfast area, but forget the small outdoor pool and patio area, it's next to a very busy Inner Ring Lisbon road.

Prices, very good, if you book on the Internet for best prices direct with Accor.

Two gripes, 4 Star Hotel with polystyrene cups for drinks and plastic drinking glasses, saves washing up, but come on guys, this is not what would expect in a 4 Star Hotel and not very 'Green' too.

Overall I would recommend it, even though to cross a busy 4 lane high speed road to get to the Metro (I wouldn't want to take this route late at night) is for the quick footed only.

Would I stay their again, yes.

“2nd Stay in this Hotel”

Novotel Lisboa

A return trip to Lisbon so I choose this Hotel again. It is great value and in a safe area.
The hotel is not in the main toursit area of Lisbon, rather in a Business area with good transport links and fast access to the main part of central Lisbon. Taxi at EUR5 or Metro at .75 cents to central. There are a number of Hotels on this street and area so prices are competitive though not much night life which also keeps the area safer.
To get to hotel from Airport on public transport involves airport bus or No45 to downtown then Metro.
The hotel bar is reasonably priced as is room service.
Staff were friendly and attentive with a variety of languages spoken. There is a pool but I did not try it.
Good sized rooms and spacious bathroom.

“I liked it but there were some problems”

Novotel Lisboa

Let me start by saying that I liked this hotel. The rooms were nice and large (bare in mind that it was being shared by 2 adults and 2 kids) and the air con was doing its job admirably. The breakfast was good with a wide variety of choices for 9 Euros per adult and the kids ate for free :-) There appeared to be ample parking beneath the hotel as well. Ok, now the downside. If you want to use the metro, you have to walk around the back of the hotel and then under a less than salubrious underpass. Fine during the day but not somewhere I'd like to be at night with kids. Taxis are cheap though. Secondly, the safe in our room was locked so I had to find a member of staff to open it before we went out. The biggest issue we had was that when we returned to the room late (9:30 pm is late for our kids), we found that the sofa bed was broken. I rang reception but had to go down in the end and explain the situation. The receptionist came straight away, realised that the bed was broken and offered us the room opposite. We had to move all our stuff and the kids who were by now in our bed. Not a great way to end a lovely day. When we checked out the following day, we said that we weren't happy that this had happened and they gave us a 50% discount and waived the parking fee which I felt was a very good gesture on their part. So with this in mind, I would happily recommend this hotel but if you have kids with you, TEST THE SOFA BED FIRST!!!!
