My husband and I spent four nights at the Tivoli Tejo in December 2007; we stayed in a double room on the twelfth floor. The hotel is located five minutes taxi ride from the airport (there is no metro connection between the airport and Lisbon‘s metro system yet), which cost us 6 Euros each way.
All the hotel staff we had contact with during our stay were polite and helpful, and our room was very much as we’d expected: spacious and clean, with tea/coffee making facilities, and a good sized bathroom.
We were quite impressed with the Continental Breakfast served at the Tejo, which offered a good selection of pastries, cold meats and fruit. One aspect of the breakfast set-up we didn’t like, however, was that there were no separate smoking and non-smoking rooms, which meant that unless you sat a great distance from the smoking area (which we managed to do) you could still smell the smoke.
The hotel is in a great location; it is across the street from Oriente metro/bus station, which made travelling around Lisbon VERY easy. It is also within easy walking distance of all the Expo 98 attractions including the Aquarium and cable cars.
This is obviously a hotel designed with business travellers in mind rather than tourists (as a side note, there are two computers in the lobby offering free high speed internet access), which meant the hotel did have a slightly sterile feeling. For us, however, the advantages in terms of price and location far outweighed the small niggles we had regarding this hotel, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone planning a visit to Lisbon.
