We were a party of 10 in 5 twin rooms. All were big enough with very roomy bathrooms, having bath & shower. Rooms cleaned daily and towels changed as required. Breakfast room pleasant but could get a little busy, choice probably above average for this standard of hotel. Very good lounge with plenty of comfy chairs and travel books to read. 24 hour reception worked well, and all could speak some English, most very well. Overall the hotel was very clean with lots of tiles to give it a nice traditional feel.
One of its best assets is its location - on Portas de Santo Anteo, a walking street with plenty of restaurants, although some may find the waiters trying to entice you inside a bit touristy. But it is on the flat and you can walk everywhere, using trams to go uphill if necessary.
We used Lisbon Tour Guides www.lisbongt.com and found them excellent - Isabel took us around the city and Paula took us to Sintra - thoroughly recommended. And they were very flexible with the itinerary which made both trips feel tailor made for us.
Found eating out could be a bit varied in standards but overall it was good value for money and there were no rip offs on the wine. The fish in particular was a very good choice.
Had no problems with pickpockets although we did have a "suspect" character on the 28 tram who eventually decided to try his luck elsewhere.
All in all a thoroughly enjoyable 5 days and a city we would return to.
