Jamaica is a small club of the city of Lisbon. The space is set in an area of streets where names of many other cities and countries line up: Tokyo, Copenhagen… The place was born in 1971 and the name was supposed to attract those coming in the ships of coffee of the Caribbean. It was the first disco of the area to have a different activity from the prostitution bars that expanded here. Today all area is becoming a bit more fancy and known of all with the open of the nearby Pensão Amor.
Jamaica itself does not limit itself to reggae. During the week there are Reggae nights (I think Tuesday) but at the weekend the music turns more into more commercial with a highlight in the 80’s. The space is small, dark, the 70’s style show and gets crowded often with some tobacco smell. If you like 80’s music and are in a small group this could be an interesting and somewhat fun place to go out. When I went there entrance for the ladies was free and men had to pay 7,50€ converted to beverages.
