“Top Notch”

The hotel is rated 5 stars and it didn’t disappoint. We got a superb deal through Expedia and stayed there for a week in July 2006.

It’s located in a quiet area, maybe 2-3 miles north of the Baixa – the heart of the action. But this isn’t a problem, as it’s less than 10 mins on the (very cheap, clean and efficient) metro. The nearest metro station, Parque, is only a couple of blocks away – two minutes walk from the hotel.

The rooms are lovely, and the ample buffet breakfasts are superb. The chocolates on the pillow each evening were a nice touch too. The staff are top notch – especially the dining room staff at breakfast who were the epitome of professionalism, and simply couldn’t be faulted.

One word of warning though: don’t channel-hop on the Pay-TV. Many hotels allow you 30 seconds free preview or suchlike before they ask you to type in your room number to confirm you want to buy the movie. Not the Real Palacio. As soon as you hit the pay-TV button on the handset you are billed for it. There is a disclaimer on the screen but it is in very small print at the bottom of the screen. We felt this was a real con (13 euros!).

Despite this wee glitch (and a particularly arsey and argumentative waiter who tried to make out WE were in the wrong when we complained about a meal), we would recommend this SUPERB value-for-money hotel.

“Great stay!”

This was our first time in Lisbon. We chose this hotel based on the great reviews, and we were certainly not disappointed! Location is very good. It's close to the metro, some good cafés, El Corte Ingles and a really nice park.

Our room was very good, spacious and comfortable. It contained a minibar (expensive drinks and snacks as always), bathrobes, fresh flowers every day, chocolates every evening, a large safe (absolutely free to use) and a good selection of toiletries. Good sized TV with a lot of channels.
At first we were a bit worried about the bed, as it was very firm. However, we slept really well so I guess it must have been good. Air conditioning worked well, and added to the great comfort.

Breakfast was very good, containing a variety of fresh fruits, cereals, bread & pastry, different kinds of yoghurt, fruit juices (nothing freshly squeezed though), bacon and eggs, mushrooms, sweet rice pudding with cinnamon, small muffins, chocolate filled pancakes etc.

Staff were very polite and nice to us throughout our stay. They were very helpful, handed us a map at check-in and could always answer our questions.

Never visited the health club.

We would without a doubt return (and we'll definitely go back to Portugal)!

I have just returned from a full weeks stay at this hotel. It was my first trip to Lisbon and the hotel was perfect. I was there for a work conference and I found the staff fantastic and helpful when it came to booking restaurants etc. There is a certain ambience about this hotel and my favorite part was the atrium in the middle of the ground floor. The rooms were very tidy and the mini bar nicely stocked. The little chocolate at night was also an added touch. The hotel is very near a nice park for a nice stroll, the lovely shopping centre and the metro which takes you to wherever you need to go. It cost €3.70 for a full day ticket that covered metro and bus. Taxis are cheap and the nightlife is superb. The hotel added to the success of my trip.

“Fantastic hotel”

just got back from a 4 day break in Lisbon and stopped at the real palacio. I agree with everyone and say a great hotel to stop at. It was very plush and absolutely spotless. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was no problem, the metro just around the corner. One night we had a taxi to the docks area which was the other side of the city and it only came to 5 euro.

“excellent hotel”

Like all the other reviews we can only agree the hotel was excellent, I especially enjoyed the chocolates on your pillow each evening. The staff were all very attentive in particular bar staff who ensured my husband had a centre seat in the bar to watch the Champions League game between Arsenal and Villa Read. The restuarant on the top floor of El Cortes Ingles is brilliant and whatever you do don't miss the Gulbenkiam Museum a short walk from the hotel a fantastic collection.

The only disappointment is yet again the thieving taxi drivers at Lisbon Airport 20 euros to get to the hotel from the airport on only 8 euros to return days later
