My husband and I booked this hotel because we wanted to visit Lisbon as well as Cascais, Estoril, Sintra, Mafra and various Peninsular War sites in the space of 4 days. We had a hire car. Hotel ideally placed for all trips and travel to and from airport.

The room allocated on first night was excellent but was on windy side of hotel so balcony chilly. Got ourselves reallocated very easily next day to a room overlooking pool, Tagus and Ponte 25 de Abril. Gorgeous illuminated night vista from a large balcony.

Hotel in a very peaceful location.

Had indoor pool to myself on two out of three visits.

Room was clean, spacious and comfortable. If you wanted to self-cater, then you could have most effectively. Bed most comfortable.

Breakfast buffet good.

Staff very helpful. Directed us to free parking in Belem and an underground car park in Praca dos Restauradores which only cost Euros 15 for day. Both easy to find and enabled very satisfactory excusions into Lisbon.

We ate in hotel - Euros55 for 2 courses and bottle of wine. Very acceptable, different and pleasant meals. There are no restaurants in walking distance - which was not a downside for us but might be for some.

After hustle and bustle of Lisbon on two days and serious map reading outside in the countryside on the other two, it was a delight to return here for a swim, meal, sit on the balcony with a good view and excellent sleep.

After using Trip Advisor comments to help narrow down a shortlist of Lisbon hotels to celebrate a birthday long weekend, we chose the Solplay and were delighted. We ended up booking 5 nights and flew from Dublin. Although the hotel is approx 15 min drive outside of the city in reasonable traffic, it provided the space, facilities such as a quiet garden, view of the sea/river, pools, gym in which to unwind and then we travelled in and out of Lisbon either using the hotel drivers or the train station (€5 away by taxi - very good train service between Estoril on the coast and the city). We had a lovely apartment style room (413), two balconies, view of the pool, very good kitchenette, large bedroom and bathroom. Spotlessly clean. Although the neighbouring suburb is rather delipaidated which is a shame, with no nearby restaurants to recommend, there were two supermarkets in easy walking distance which were fine for provisions for making snacks in the room, the hotel restaurant was good (great breakfast if you like fruit and local pastries particularly), and we ate out in Lisbon also. The Hotel's staff were extremely helpful, special thanks to Rute on Reception who went out of her way before and during our visit to provide any information/help we required and organised collection from the airport and return trip. The gym instructor was the most helpful I have ever met and the equipment was great, lots of room also - which again can be unusual. Hairdressing salon was also superbly equipped - the chairs give you a back massage whilst your hair is being washed! and very reasonable prices. If, like us, you want to relax in peaceful, high spec surroundings, and don't mind the short trip in and out of Lisbon, this hotel gave us that, and very fair value for money. I would definitely recommend it, we were sad to leave (40 min journey back to airport in rush hour traffic with hotel driver, was only €15). I also recommend trips to Sintra region whilst you are there. Do be aware that it's a business hotel also, but we liked this as we had the pool to ourselves most of the time (probably May onwards into summer the hotel is busier, but it was very quiet during our trip). The hotel could do with a re-paint of the exterior, we were a little worried on our approach, but once you are inside it's easily 4 star ++ and our room was perfect. This is a very good hotel. It is perfect to spend here your holiday and go back home relaxed and with very nice memories. At the same time it is suitable for business people. You can find here all the things that you expect to have for a 4 stars hotel, but you will be surprised to receive for what you pay services offered at 5 stars hotels (Internet, indoor and outdoor swimming pool, 2 different kind of sauna, Jacuzzi, gymnasium, conference rooms, parking places, restaurant and a very nice landscape due to the fact that Ocean is nearby). Everything will make you to say: Yes I will come back here and I will recommend it to all of my friends.

I had a business trip in September-October 2007 and also January-March 2008 and I stayed at Solplay. The hotel is great and it offers all you’ll need.
The breakfast is various and it contains a lot of quality food.
The pool is lovely, very luxurious. The hotel has 2 pools – one inside-pool and one outside-pool. Unfortunately I cannot try the outside-pool which is spectaculars because of the weather but I tried the inside-pool 3-4 times per week.
The hotel’s gym is also very, very nice and luxurious. It has a lot of space and you are feeling free to do your exercises.

I paid 74.5 EUR per night for a room and I thought that is an excellent value.
Overall I would say this is probably one of the best hotel I have ever stayed in on my business trips.
