“Wonderful Hotel, Unfortunate Location”

The Turim Europa Hotel is an elegant, professionally run hotel. Our room was lovely: hardwood floors, quality linens, absolutely immaculate and incredibly quiet. The public areas in the hotel are pleasant; the breakfast buffet quite varied and delicious. Hotel staff was quite helpful and knowledgable except for one young woman whom we we were told was new. Unfortunately, this location is lacking; although the subways are within a few blocks, some of your destinations will require a transfer or two--and the immediate hotel neignborhood lacks restaurants and interesting areas for strolling. However, if that isn't a problem for you, you'll be quite pleased with the hotel and especially with the value for your money.

We were approximately 20 Scottish family and friends who were booked into the Hotel between September 19 and 25th to attend my nephew's wedding in Malveira. (Other family and friends were in different hotels).
Some of our rooms were singles; some were doubles; and some were twins. Room sizes were comparable to most city hotels in Europe, although the twin-bedded room was a bit larger than the double-bedded room.
Without exception, everyone in our party agreed that the rooms were very comfortable, spotless, and had every facility that we needed.
The 2 construction sites across the road? Sure, we saw them! but only when we were going out about 10 am. and coming back in after 7; or 8; or 9 o'clock at night. (Do some people actually go on holiday and sit in their room all day?).
Contrary to some previous reviews, the buffet breakfast was first class; was available every morning until 10.30 am; and offered every cereal; hot and cold drink; cold cuts etc; and hot breakfast selections that you could ask for. You could fill up for a day on what was on offer.
Dark corridors? Europe is energy concientious, so why needlessly waste power? Wave your arms as soon as you come out of the elevator, or your room, and hey presto - a two-fold benefit! Lights and excercise!
We agreed that the service in the Bar could be a little slow at times, but with Pedro being on his own most of the time, and a full house (are you listening, Senor Manager?), he never failed to have a smile on his face, and worked tirelessly and endlessly (the odd time with help) to ensure that everyone was attended to as quickly and pleasantly as possible.
Previous reviews have covered all the sights and attractions to see, but I must recommend one restaurant where 16 or so unexpected customers turned up one night at 9 pm. and were grouped together with no fuss, and with lots of hospitality. (And the food was delicious).
Turn to your left when you come out of the Hotel, and walk up the side street which is the second from the left. Four or five minutes later, on the left-hand side of the street, you will reach a set of stairs which takes you up to an outdoor plaza with 2 or 3 restaurants and coffee shops around a reflective pool. Head for the "Lusitana" on the left-hand side, and tell them we sent you. You won't be disappointed.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay in the Turim Europa Hotel, and have no hestation in recommending it to all of you. Enjoy!

“A week in Lisbon”

We arrived on a Sunday and it took about 5 minutes to check in and then our bags were whisked up to our room. We had a view which looked out onto the two building sites on the other side of the road which were mentioned in a previous review, however, as the rooms have excellent air con, we never opened the window and never heard any work being carried out. We used the airport bus, which was fairly easy.

The room was clean and tidy and well equiped and the towels were changed every day. We requested a double bed and got exactly that.

Breakfast was good, but the restuarant was quite small and if you went to breakfast after 9:00 you generally had to queue to get a table. Also, the busier it got the slower the coffee machine got was so we would advise going down around 8:30 at the latest.

The nearest metro is Parque and we used the metro a lot. It is really easy and cheap (75 cents)

We were not surprised when we arrived that the shops were not open as it was Sunday, but was surprised that many resturants and cafes were also closed. We also had a public holiday on the Wednesday and again no shops were open. On the Saturday the shops were again closed which was disappointing as we left some of our last shopping to the day before we came home. We did not find out why though. However, the Corte Ingles (which was about 10 minutes walk) was open and the supermarket and resturants on that site were.

We caught the train to Cascais on two days which is about 35 minutes away. This journey is 3 euros 20 cents return and it is a nice seaside town. It has lost of 'brit' type resturants serving british beers and a nice sandy beach. The station is right by the beach and there is a shopping centre.

We travelled to Oriente on the metro one day as we were told you could get a bus to the Freeport Designer outlet from there. We didn't actually go though. There is a huge shopping Centre called Vasco Di Gama, with loads of shops and bars and resturants. We spent our day shopping but there looked like there was many other things to do there, including some live music being advertised in the evenings.

We would reccomend the hotel as although it is some way out from the city centre, the metro is excellent.

“Value for money”

Turim Europa Hotel

There is very little that we can complain about with our stay, the bedrooms were a good size and were very clean and catered for any essential needs, the staff were also more than willing to help with any queries we had. There are great transport links with 2 Metro stations and bus stops nearby and it only took 20 minutes to walk to the city centre on foot.

There were two things that we felt were not great; the first being the breakfast, the food was not of a high standard but for the price I suppose it should have been expected. Also, due to our room positioning (ground floor facing the courtyard) it was constantly dark and we had no view whatsoever.

We believe this hotel is extremely good value for money and wouldn't hesitate in recommending it to anyone travelling to Lisbon on a budget.

“See building renovation in progress”

Turim Europa Hotel

25 Jul 2007

This hotel is in a small side street but in a good location for two metro stations.Sadly there are two very large properties, facing the hotel across the narrow street, undergoing massive renovation. The builders start work at 7 am (except Sunday) and there are cranes, bulldozers and lorries in and out constantly until about 8pm.This makes the entrance, to the hotel ,look shabby and unkempt. And it's noisy!
The hotel was surprisingly very full the weekend we stayed and the bedroom adjoining ours was used by a group of young men, returning in the early hours, to continue drinking and talking very loudly. We had to complain to the reception desk twice to have them quietened down (it was by then after 4.30am!!)The breakfast arrangements are chaotic, with too many people for too small a 'dining room'. The quality of food is very poor and things run out quickly (we had to ask for the coffee urn to be refilled). The bar prices are really high ( a glass of wine and a lemon squash 7 Euros).
However it is easy to get to the excellent metro from the hotel and this is an inexpensive service)
We booked our stay online and paid a good price for somewhere central. However the usual, normal cost of a double room is far too high for what is provided and the 'modern' shower head can only be used handheld ...what a silly idea.
