I booked this hotel through Expedia as a Flight/Hotel Package. The price was very reasonable.

We got a taxi from the airport to the hotel which cost 16 euros. I would not recommend driving in Lisbon as it is very busy and chaotic on the roads. We saw two accidents just coming from the airport. Check-in at the hotel went very smoothly. They gave us a map and marked on it all the 'must see' areas on it. They also gave us some restaurant cards and said that they would book tables for us whenever we wanted. Our room was on the second floor which was a little disappointing as we would have liked to have had a view. We didn't ask for an upgrade because we've been disappointed in the past and didn't want the embarrassment of them saying NO!!! The room was extremely clean, stylish and spacious. We had a twin room but the beds were touching so were quite cosy (we didn't mind as we are mother and daughter). The freebies in the bathroom are fantastic which travelled home with us!! There are no tea and coffee making facilities in the room but there is a minibar and room service was available if required. We had breakfast on our last morning which was a buffet affair for 12 euros. A bit steep but with the pound being so weak it was expected. The food was very nice (nothing special) and the coffee was lovely. There are plenty of small restaurants/cafes near by that do breakfasts for half the cost.

The Metro Station Saldanha is a 3 minute walk where you can get a travel ticket to get you around the city on metro/bus/tram at about 4 euros a day. Be aware that you will come across a lot (every train) of 'blind/disabled beggars'. I did feel sorry for them and kept giving all my change away but I soon noticed that the locals ignored them so I tried to ignore them too. They are very clever because they seemed to hover next to the tourists rattling their cups, even though they were blind!! There are also a lot of street sellers selling sunglasses and jewelry etc. If you don't want what they are offereing then just say no and walk away. One seller was very insistant with us and 'gave us a bracelet as a gift'. He then talked us out of 5 euros as a gift to him! I know we didn't have to give him any money but he was very insistant and he wasn't very happy with the 5 euros we gave him either!!

All in all our trip to Lisbon was very nice and I recommend it wholeheartedly. I especially recommend a trip to the Zoo (11 euros) where you can get pretty close to the animals (especially the chimpanzees. I wasn't overly impressed with the aquarium but thats probably because I've not long come back from Seaworld in Orlando.

The Zenit is an exceptional hotel and is well worth a visit.

“Very agreeable hotel”

Zenit Lisboa

9 Apr 2008

I can only agree with the other positive reviews of this hotel, which I would recomment to other visitors to Lisbon without hesitation.

The exterior of the hotel is refreshingly different from the usual high rise concrete façade of many other hotels that make you think you could be in any other city in the world without noticing a difference.

Once you step inside the hotel, you are greeted by friendly and helpful staff in a modern and stylish lobby. After a very straight forward check-in procedure we went up to our room, which we - again - found stylish, comfortable and modern, yet different from a bog-standard hotel room you find in many large international hotel chains. Our room, as well as others I have seen, had their own character and were spotless. Comfortable beds and all the usual amenities in the room rounded off the positive experience. At an internet rate of under EUR 90 for a double room per night, I cannot fault this hotel at all - it is excellent value for money.

The only possible drawback of this hotel is its location somewhat outside the city centre, but as other reviers note, it is only a 20-30 minute walk. Alternatively, there are buses and the underground about five miuntes from the hotel, and a taxi from the centre costs little more than five euros. Therefore, I personally have not considered this as a problem.

I cannot comment on the breakfast as we went into the city centre straight away to begin the day with breakfast in one of the many nice cafes, which, in my view, always tends to be better value than hotel breakfasts - especially as it gives you a chance to begin the day in the same way as a local might. However, the hotel restaurant looked decent enough.

Parking was possible on the street outside the hotel on a Sunday, but on a weekday the hotel car park would seem the easier option.

All in all - a highly recommendable hotel in a city that is well worth a visit.

“An outstanding hotel that's a 20-30 minute walk from Lisbon's main attractions”

Pros:
- Outstanding hotel rooms, bathroom, lobby, and exterior -- similar to a “W” or high-end Westin in the U.S.
- Cost was very reasonable at €85 per night in April 2008
- Taxi cab fare to/from airport should cost just €10 including a tip, and takes about 15 minutes
- Neighborhood is clean and feels safe

Cons:
- Hotel is a 20-30 minute walk from any attractions -- walk is pleasant but plan accordingly if going to bars or intending to return to hotel room during the day (I walked from Barrio Alto to the hotel as late as 4:00 AM and felt safe, however, hailing a taxi can be difficult during peak bar hours so you may find yourself doing a lot more walking back to the hotel than you’d like)
- Internet isn’t free and is expensive (€5 per hour or €20 per day)

Overall:
- An outstanding hotel and I would absolutely stay here again

“Good value, needs a touch-up”

Zenit Lisboa

We have used this hotel a number of times over the last 3 years when we can get a decent price (65 euro). It's very good, the staff are friendly and polite, and I particularly like the bed linen and pillow menu. The rooms are pleasant, but be aware that not all rooms are great. Some are getting a bit worn out and others have only a small corner window with little natural light so your experience can really depend on what you get allocated. Ask to see others if you don't like the one you get. The rooms are very quiet, having an extra door between the bedroom and the corridor, allowing you a lie-in without being disturbed by the maid service. The location is very convenient for the airport, an important factor in a city with such terrible traffic problems as Lisbon.

“Okay choice”

Stayed there 15-19 Feb 2008, booked through Expedia. Could not get breakfast included so we ate out everyday. I had a rental car but would advise against this, the roads are poor, driving standards are bad and the accident rate is high. The hotel also charged 15 euros per day parking which is underground via a car elevator! I would say that it is cheaper to use local transport. We stayed in for one meal on Sat night before going out. We were the only ones in the restaurant but the food was superb.

Our biggest disappointment was not having any tea making facilities in our room!! We have always had this in 3* hotels and above so we were a little bemused. The hotel looks and smells new and is in a good location away from the busy centre. With hindsight, i would have chosen a different hotel as long as breakfast was included (even if i had to pay more).

If you want nightlife, ignore Bairro Alto, it was seedy bars and locals selling drugs. Instead, go to the trendy Docas area where there are about 10 bars in a row on the seafront next to Buddha nightclub (recommended).

Enjoy a great meal at Club De Fado in Alfama area and you will get live Fado music and singers while you eat. We spent 110 euros in there but well worth it.

Do visit the oceanarium, its quite good. Take a drive over Vasco De Gama bridge, about 12km long.
