This was our second stay at the Pestana Promenade Hotel. We arrived on 11th June for a two week holiday, and enjoyed this stay even more than our last one in Sept last year. We previously stayed in a superior room and as we discovered this time, the standard rooms do not have robes or slippers provided, but this was not a problem. Our room was on the 4th floor towards the spa end of the hotel, and we could see a 'Secret Garden' from our balcony that we did not know existed before which is accessible through the spa. We had lovely views of the pools, sea and surrounding areas along the promenade.
Stayed on a B&B basis only (booked via Thomson), and ate in the hotel once. It was Atlantic BBQ buffet night (very good food, great selection, drinks, coffee included), which included a coach trip to the Casino Park Hotel rooftop (glass of sparkling wine included) to view the final evening of fireworks in Funchal Harbour. This festival of fireworks is every weekend during the month of June, and on our first week, we walked to the harbour to view the display from the ground. All the locals packed into the area and it had almost a carnival atmosphere. Many festivals take place during June, so this is a great month to visit. It was great to see the fireworks display from both viewpoints.
All of the staff are friendly, helpful and as other reviews state, nothing is too much trouble. They are all attentive, ready to assist, particularly by the pool with parasols. The bar staff in the evenings are also excellent. Reception staff also eager to assist with bookings for taxi's, Reid's afternoon tea etc. Breakfast offers a great variety of choice, fresh fruit, cereals, croissants, rolls, cooked breakfast, toast, juice, yoghurts. The coffee is the best I have ever tasted!!
We ate most evenings in the local restaurants and amongst our favourites are the O Chefe, Te Oriental, Casa Italia and il Basilica. All were very reasonably priced. The local supermarkets also have a buffet selection of food, where you pile your plate up and they charge you based on the weight. This is very popular with the locals, very cheap and the food is very tasty!
What more can I say? We would definitely recommend this hotel, it is absolutely great, still looks brand new. Our daughter and her boyfriend will be staying during July on our recommendation, and I will be interested to find out how their age-group (21-25) find it, compared to us middle-agers!! I'm sure they will love it just as much as we did.
We would definitely return to this hotel again. We met some lovely people, both staff (Luisa, Dinart, Jose and may others whose names I don't know!) and other visitors (hello to Pauline and Kay and David and Rita if you are reading this!!) and of course, Lexi our holiday Rep who was very knowledgable about the island.
I could go on but I think it's safe to say that we love this hotel, and the surrounding area, as well as the whole of Madeira!!!
Great views from our 4th floor room, but almost at the end of the corridor (spa end), so quite a lon...
