“Good but....Hotel Internet Needs Serious Help, and a bit noisy.”

Athens Hilton

The Hilton Athens is located near the city center of Athens, and a 35-40 Euro cab ride from the airport, or a 6 Euro subway ride and a short walk from the station across the road from the Hilton. One downside to the subway is it only leaves the airport every thirty minutes.

The hotel is clean and modern, and is close to many of the tourist areas of Athens. The executive floor on 11 offers a good view of the city and a typical executive lounge fare of drinks and continental breakfast. The rooftop bar on the top floor offers a great view at sundown.

Although high quality hotels are relatively limited in downtown Athens, and the Hilton is one of the better properties, I can suggest three things that one should consider when staying at this property.

1) The internet at this property – rots. There is a system for wireless (WiFi) which works in the lobby and on the 11th floor executive lounge. There is another DIFFERENT system that works in your room. At a “mere” 29 euros per day, at a business hotel, one should expect an integrated system that allows the use of wired and wireless internet. And, one should expect a system that works! At this Hilton, you get the “privilege’ of buying two services if you are going to do any work in your room – and outside of your room. In addition, the internet in the conference rooms downstairs didn’t work at all. Complaints to the management were met with a bit of puzzled looks, and when informed that I was a frequent traveler they suggested that they might look into it, but then again, who knows.

2) This property is near two major roads. I have attached a photo from our balcony to show the view and the traffic. Even being on the 12th floor, the road noise at night was more than one would expect. There isn’t much the hotel can do about this, but you should be aware if you are a light sleeper.

3) Taxis in Athens continue to be a challenge for me. Apparently, if you have the doorman wave a taxi to pick you up, there is a 3 euro surcharge. In addition to being ripped off coming from the Airport on prior trips (hence the suggestion of taking the subway) and being charged 37 euros to go to the Airport from the Hilton in spite of the meter reading 23 euros, I can only offer the suggestion of “buyer beware”.

Overall, the hotel itself is fairly nice, and the location is convenient to many locations downtown, as long as you don’t need the internet (or can afford to spend a lot on two internet purchases) this can be a good place to stay.

We stayed here before going on a cruise. It is a great place for Honors members to use points. As a Hilton gold member you get access to the executive floor and the gym. The views from the executive floor are great and the breakfast starts off the day well. Pools are awesome, both indoor and outdoor.
I highly recommend going upstairs to the bar for a view at night, it is worth a look.
The hotel was close to a train stop, which was nice. I would not try and drive in Athens after seeing the traffic.
Take the Mercedes taxi to the port if you are going on a cruise, they are helpful and get you right to where you need to be. The train will not get you there even though there is a train stop near the hotel.

This is a nice hotel in a good spot to get around even if the exterior looks a bit 70s eastern block.

We stayed in an Executive room with the Acropolis view on the 12th Floor. It is worth the extra for the seperate lounge, checkin checkout etc but not quite to the same standard as at the Hilton Palace Sorrento.

We stayed 8 nights so that the continental breakfast in the exec lounge gets a bit tiresome but the room and service of the staff are excellent.

The pool is great with good food at the bar drinks at the high end 18 euros for 2 beers.

There is a tube station about 300m away which is one stop from Sygmata square and two from the main tourist areas.

Sygmata is walkable in about 15 minutes. There are a good few rstaurants behind the hotel if you don't want to walk far and also up the road at the side of the british embasy.

We ate at the Byzantine restaurant in the hotel one night and it was poor.

Great views from the rooftop Galaxy Bar and a good vibe but again drinks are pricey and cocktails not up to scratch ( Try Hotel De Rome in Berlin for the best). Very poor G & T which should be a staple.

There is a little shop in the foyer where you can get UK and other papers on th same day. There is also a cash machine in the foyer.

All in all we realy enjoyed the stay and would go back

The Hilton Hotel in Athens is superb, great location, great bathroom, great food at a reasonable prices.
We got a free upgrade to the executive floor with Hilton Honors
which made our stay great value for money.
All the staff were polite and helpful and the pool area is really
good.
All in all a very pleasant place to stay.
When arriving in Athens from the airport on the Metro get off at
Evangelismous Station you can see the hotel from there about 250 mtrs walk.
