We arrived at the front desk and were sent to check in with the executive level concierge on the 12th floor. (I'm Hilton Gold, had booked an Acropolis view room on points, but we were treated as well as if we were cash guests.)
Our room wasn't ready yet and we were invited to wait in the lounge where we had a roll and coffee. After about an hour, we were given our room keys. The concierge had already called bell services to have our bags delivered.
The room was spacious with a great view, easily controlled HVAC, and was comfortable. The bathroom had a seperate deep tub and shower, toilet cubicle behind the shower (good, because the glass wall between the bedroom and bathroom is not 100% private--traveling with my husband it wasn't a problem, however had I been traveling with a friend or associate it would have been uncomfortable) and ample counter space alongside the sink. The towels were large but not fluffy. Waffle robes and slippers were provided.
Bell services arrived and gave a tour of the room, showing us how to use the sliding door, and cautioning that the mini-bar was electronic and would charge if we moved anything. They were excellent.
The flat screen TV was small with limited channels in English, but it was expected and we got BBC World and CNN World, so we were fine. (it might have had El Jazeera English as well, can't recall for sure)
We had twice daily maid service, and that evening when we returned we found a bottle of wine and small bowl of fruit as a welcome gift--a nice touch.
The area around the hotel was a bit loud due to a hospital being adjacent and it being on a major street, but we were never bothered by noise as long as the door was closed. The Metro station was half a block away, and there was a bus stop across the street as well. The metro was very clean, fast, and efficient, and we used that to get around.
Dinner our first night at the rooftop restaurant was very good in terms of food and service, and the view was stunning. It was very, very windy, but the staff made the best of it.
We had breakfast both days in the lounge, but be warned, they only bring out just so much, and when things run out they don't replace them, regardless of how many people are still trying to eat. Only one morning there were eggs left, and I took what was left which was half an order--the pan was never replaced. I can't really complain for free, but if I had purchased the upgrade I would have been angry about the situation.
The only other problem we encountered was at the pool. We arrived around 3:00 pm on a Sunday afternoon and it was crowded. We were able to find two loungers together and settled in. It took over an hour of trying to get a waiter to come take a drink order and bring menus. When we finally flagged one down, we asked for a menu and he turned around and left without taking a drink order. He never returned with the menu. We waited and 25 minutes later we flagged down another waiter. he brought a menu but it took another 15 minutes for him to return to take our order. Then it took 45 minutes to have half our order delivered, he forgot our drinks and brought no ketchup or salt for our burger. While we ate unsalted fries and our burger went cold, 10 minutes later he arrived with the condiments and forgotten drinks. We never did get the glasses of water we requested.
I would return back to the Hilton again, but would never count on getting lunch at the pool, that experience was pitiful at best, and is the sole reason that I didn't rate this hotel Very Good or Excellent.
After seeing it take forever for other guests to get checked in/out at the front desk I was dreading the experience, but in fact it was pleasant and efficient and took about three minutes, mostly because I choose to settle with leftover Euros rather than putting the incidentals on my AmEx.
It's worth it to book an Acropolis view room on a higher floor.
