I cannot understand how a person couldn't like this hotel. We had 2 rooms (3 of us) for two nights. The price was very good for what you are getting. Location, nice rooms, great breakfast. The rooftop restaurant was also very good. The view is incredible, one side of the hotel is the Temple of Zeus and the other is the Acropolis, what more could you want? I did book quiet rooms because I had read this hotel is on a busy street, which it is, but our rooms were on a sidestreet and perfect. We each had a balcony which was great because I rinsed out a few clothes and they dried on the balcony in no time. The rooms were stylish, clean and a nice size. You can walk to everything from this hotel. I cannot think of one bad thing to say about this place. The staff was also friendly. As to speaking English, well, you are in Greece. The front desk speaks English and most of the waiters can figure you out if you try a little (very little). Overall, my boys and I thought this was a nice hotel. We took the metro from the airport to Acropolis startion (had to change at Styntagma). This was an easy process and I think it cost 10 euros each, but not sure about that. That could be a rountrip price. It is a very short walk from Acropolis station to the hotel. Ask the hotel ahead of time how to get there from that station.

“Good hotel - great location”

The Athens Gate Hotel

27 Jun 2008

You can't get a better location than the Athens Gate, Turn left out of the hotel and the first street left takes you on to the new pedestrian walkway that links all the major historical sites, second left takes you into the heart of the Plaka for the bars, cafes, tavernas and shops.Turn right and first right to find the Acropolis Metro station. Just round the corner is a small shop that sells bottled water, fruit etc.

We stayed three nights at the Athens Gate at the beginning of June. In our judgement it's a good to very good city centre hotel. Rooms are reasonably sized, but if you've brought a lot of luggage there's not a lot of cupboard space to unpack. The bathroom is a good size, plenty of hot water for the shower. If you don't like the glass window from the shower into the bedroom - there is a blind! Firm bed, but that's what we prefer. The room and the whole hotel were spotlessly clean, and the staff helpful and courteous.

We had a room on the street side, 5th floor. If the windows are shut then the traffic noise is definitely not intrusive - may be we're just used to a higher level of ambient noise.

The view from the rooftop bar restaurant is amazing - especially of the Acropolis at night. We only ate breakfast at the hotel, plenty of choice - as long as you don't leave it too late.

All in all, a very good base for a tourist trip to Athens.

In amongst the bustle and amazing chaos which is Athens, is the very nice AthensGate Hotel, approximately 500 metres from the Acropolis site.

Alexia and the other girls on Reception very efficient, friendly and helpful. Concierge and another older gentleman (who I am not sure what title he had, though when my nephew had trouble with the safe in his room not working properly, this gentleman came upstairs straight away and fixed it), were also very friendly.

Modern, average sized rooms. Lovely king size beds, very comfortable, good pillows. Decent sized flat screen tv, ample storage space. We chose a standard room which was on the 4th floor, and which was quiet at night which was good. Big bathroom, and shower cubicle, good shower rose and water pressure. Lovely modern vanity unit with good amenities.

(We noticed a slight smell coming from the drain in the bathroom every time we walked into our hotel room. Not sure if this has anything to do with the drainage system in Athens ??).

Hotel was expensive however considering it has been recently renovated, and its unbeatable location, I guess that's why.

Breakfast was included in the rate, good selection though some of the cooked food was lukewarm. Restaurant staff very friendly. The view we had of the Acropolis site and the Parthenon while we were having breakfast was awesome.

Just a few metres down from the hotel, is the Plaka. There is an ATM on the corner, then many souvenir shops, eateries and a chemist.

Would definitely recommend this hotel, and would stay here again if we are ever in Athens.

We only stayed one night before heading off to the islands, but for one night it was definitely the best hotel for location to Plaka, Acropolis, Syntagma Square etc. Everything is a close walk, there was no need for pulic transportation.

We arrived from the airport using the metro, which is busy, but there are escaltors in each of the stations that seem to take into account people that have luggage. The Acropolis Station is five minute walk from the hotel.

We were able to check-in immediately and we had arrived before noon. We stayed on the 7th floor facing the Acropolis and it was a wonderful view and a wonderful room. Complimentary Bottle of Wine was a nice touch. The restaurant on the top floor had two options for lunch, but hit the spot.

Next day, we checked out before our walking tour, but the hotel was very efficient at arranging luggage storage for us.

The room was quite spacious and comfortable. Definitely would recommend a stay here.

“Wonderful experience”

The Athens Gate Hotel

21 Jun 2008

This hotel made out trip to Athens really enjoyable. The hotel has fairly recently been refurbished and from the moment we arrived on a boiling hot day to be offered glasses of ice cold water and Greek sweets everything was lovely.
The bar and restaurant on the roof has the most wonderful views, in front of the hotel is Hadrian's Gate and at the back what must be one of the best view in Athens of the Acropolis. There is a Metro station just behind the hotel and plenty of public transport including a Hop On Hop Off bus stop nearby so getting around is easy.
The food and service in the restaurant is excellent. What could be nicer than a breakfast starting with fresh fruit salad and creamy Greek yoghurt gazing at the Parthenon.
All the hotel staff where very helpful with our every request, I shall stay there again when I next visit Athens, I hope it will be soon!
