Firstly I will say that I was staying here whilst working in Athens so I can't comment on the cost of the rooms or breakfast as I was lucky enough to have them payed for by somebody else.
I'm intrigued how often peoples' descriptions of this place include the word "modern". It really isn't.
The huge reception area has all the charm and atmosphere of a shopping mall or airport and includes a statue that looks like a KwikFit fitter doing a cartwheel. Despite this the reception staff are friendly and welcoming.
My room was very large, including a sofa, armchair, coffee table and large comfortable bed. All of which looked a little dated - although not as dated as the bathroom! This is supposedly a pretty swanky place and, looking at the prices here, is an expensive one, so you'd expect a serious bathroom. You'd be disappointed though. It looked at least 15 years old, if not 20, and was nothing you wouldn't see in a £70 a night Travelodge.
They may be making some improvements though, as a number of my colleagues had to move rooms to get away from the drilling going on in rooms around them.
You do get tea and coffee making facilities in the room but don't use your 2 teabags too quickly as you wont get any more.
Breakfast was a good, standard hotel chain buffet.
You are only a 20 minute walk from the wonders of the Acropolis, but bare in mind the road which the Intercontinental lies on (and you have to walk up) is a 6 lane raceway for the locals so it wont be a pleasant stroll.
