Probably the best hotel experience we have had in the past ten years of active traveling! We were able to book the hotel through the agency even though it was not one of their favorites - it should be! While the price was high (about $140/night/person) the stay was worth it and the delta between this and a superior hotel was not that much. From the beginning the stay was memorable. Our rooms, while not facing Constitution Square, were wonderful and each had different and unique additions. All faced an inner courtyard or other hotels and provided wonderful light and air. The dining room/breakfast area is "Tudor Hall" (floor 7?) and faces the Parthenon and the Acropolis. Exquisite setting, furnishing, and view. All the staff knew your names after the first meeting and greeted you as such. The breakfast selection - included - was fantastic. During our five day stay we ate the evening meal there twice. We celebrated a birthday and were surprised by the general manager who presented small gift bags to all the ladies - what a nice touch and all while basking under a full moon and the well-lit Acropolis. The only caution is the doorman - if you want a cab he will not hail a local one or one waiting - but rather call a "radio dispatched" one with the inherent costs - it doubles the price and increased the wait time. After the first experience of such I just stepped out on the street and got one within a minute. On the other hand - the hotel front desk was able to arrange an early morning cab (4AM) to the airport and the extra cost was negligible. A definite plus for location, ambience, and an all around attentive staff. I will stay there again if we return to Athens.
