“very good hotel for a very cheap price!!!”

Marina Hotel Athens

Well, i have read reviews before booking this hotel and I saw that it was not bad placed compared to other 3 -4 star hotels in Athens.

In fact this hotel offers a very good service compared to the price you pay for it. I paid 120 euros for a 3 nights double room (breakfast included), finally the service was certainly superior to that price.

The Hotel is located in a central area (Omonia square), it is true that the surroundings are not very clean, but it is not a disaster as described by other reviewers. In fact Omonia square is not more the square where you find only junkies people ( i was there for the first time 8 years ago and it was really a terrible place...), it is a renewed place, with new hotels and shops.

The room size is ok, staff works hard and very well for making rooms clean. Moreover, the hotel is quit as it is located in a small street where there is not too much traffic. And believe me, these things are difficult to find in Athens...

Breakfast is ok, if you 're americans probably you will find it too poor. They serve milk, tea, coffee (very soft taste), juice, cakes, honey, eggs, bread. I have heard that in other hotels is worst...

Receptionist is a very kind and sociable person, he helped me to find the location of my conference and other advises.

Finally, i can say that i l certainly advise this hotel to all persons i know they are going to Athens.

2 of us stayed here for a week. We found the hotel to be just what we paid for, exactly as pictured on the website. It was a clean bed (the bedspreads were questionable so we slept without them), clean bathroom, safe place to rest your head, basic breakfast (eggs, ham, cheese, bread, coffee, tea, cake). Good proximity to the metro, only a 3 minute walk. The neighborhood surrounding the hotel looks a bit dodgy, but not dangerous for two women coming in at night. The hotel also looks a bit dodgy from the outside, but has a lovely marble lobby and places to lounge, 2 couches and an upstairs sitting area. We stayed here for long enough to make friends in the hotel and with the staff. Internet available for a 3 Euro an hour. All in all, a clean, basic hotel that is great bang for your buck.

“Good value and location”

There seem to be mixed reviews about this hotel, but I had a pleasant enough experience there. Our room was small, but comfortable, and certainly commensurate with the price. Some of the staff members were on the surely side, but otherwise, friendly, and all of them were helpful with anything we needed. The location was just about perfect for checking out the touristy sites, and also exploring some more off the beaten path neighborhoods and awesome food markets. The area of town is not perhaps the poshest, but certainly not dangerous, if you have your wits about you. One note of caution: the breakfast is pretty awful, so check out the pastries and breads from the street vendors instead!

“The worst stay”

Marina Hotel Athens

We booked our stay for 3 nights for 2 triple rooms which we were told were supposed to be adjoining rooms. When we got there, we got 2 triple rooms which were not adjoining, let alone next to one another. The state of the rooms was terrible, the rooms smelt, under no circumstances could anyone sleep in the rooms. We opened all the windows and the smell was still there, the bed linen smelt as well. When I went down to reception to explain the problem, I was simply told that they are fully booked and cannot do anything! I had 2 young children with me at the time, and it was already quite late. There was no manager around, after 3 hours of arguing we had no choice but to stay there as it was midnight and our first night there. I was told that the manager would be in at 9am in the morning, we had to stay there, went we went at 9:30am I was told there is no manager, and that the manager is aware of the situation (somehow) and that nothing can be done. When asked when will he arrive or who is in charge in his absence, I was told that the manager will not be back until another week (conveniently) and no one else is in charge. I received nothing and left and had to make arrangements to stay elsewhere, the customer service is poor, with the condition of the rooms and hygiene very bad. I do not recommend this hotel, especially those with travelling with families, as this hotel is located in the centre but in some dodgy back end where it does not feel safe at all!

The hotel is in a very good location and worth the price. The breakfast is average and the neighbourhood is OK, not the fanciest, but OK. The location is great since it is close to the center of the city and the main sites. The center is small, and all the places that are worth seeing are close to one another, and all are close to this hotel. Recommedned.
