Booked a three night stay over the internet on www.hotels.net.gr (I think this is the site). Initially booked my accommodation through Tiger Airways site but found it cheaper to book direct through the hotel site. Our stay cost around AUD$133 per night for three people in triple room (my boyfriend, his mum and me). Very good value as room is clean, cosy, air-conditioned, with a large, clean bathroom with towels changed daily.
Breakfast was very good and included in the cost of the room - coffee, tea, juice, cornflakes, bread, halva cake, Greek yoghurt, bread, cheese, ham, tomatoes. I've read complaints about the breakfast and can't understand why anyone would be upset with it.

Staff at counter are helpful...don't let the dodgy and small entrance put you off, as once you get inside it is very welcoming. Close to Omonia Square adn station...train there from the airport.

This hotel met the needs of myself and the people in our group just fine. I stayed here for 10 days with a class studying archaeology in Athens and found it to be an easy location and relatively comfortable (for a cheap Greek hotel). Our room had a large balcony which had a view onto the street. Our triple room was rather large (although we saw some very small ones) with a large bathroom. Our television never worked and our air conditioning didn't seem to work. This wasn't a large problem for us since we didn't spend much time in the room and it was in May.

The neighborhood was a little shady in areas although I never had any problems on the street the hotel was on or on the nearby Pireos street. It is a short walk to Omonia Station where you can get on the metro and get to anywhere in town.

The hotel management was a little surly at times but always came through on making wake-up calls and making sure we had what we needed. The breakfast seemed pretty typical of mostly cold-cuts, bread and bad instant coffee, but it was the same for all hotels we stayed in across Greece having the same price range.

Overall this was a decent hotel which provided easy access to the ancient sites and museums (a must for someone coming to enjoy the history of Athens) and everything else was a manageable walk away.

It was a bit of a shock to find the hotel when we arrived, since we approached the property from the wrong end of the street (Zinonos ), as it turned out later. Hotel Marina is a five minute walk from Omonia square underground station. Make sure you walk down Pireos street rather than any other street nearby. The hotel is located in its side street, a rather dirty one with a bus terminal almost opposite the entrance. But for all that, the hotel is an altogether different world in the shabby surroundings. Go through the narrow entrance (once you manage to find it), and you will be in a neatly refurbished lobby. Front office staff is extremely helpful. The rooms overlook either the back yard, which is not a pleasant sight, or the noisy street (even worse a sight). Rooms may also have a view of nowhere, when you do have a window but it is covered with non-transparent wallpaper. The rooms were tiny but clean, the bathroom was fairly large compared to the size of the room. Towels were changed daily. It was apparent that the hotel has recently been refurbished. The breakfast was rather poor: undrinkable coffee, and self-service continental breakfast. All in all, this is a clean budget hotel with good public transportation. It is definitely a different experience from my first visit to Athens when I sateyed at the Astir Palace, but if you go for fairly central location, low prices, and have no high expectations, Hotel Marina is a good choice.

While the area is not one of the neatest, I found my stay in the hotel, on the whole, good. I did not intend to spend too much of money and the hotel was a good value for money. Yes, i did meet the surly manager, but the other ones (brothers? cousins?) were very helpful and polite. My room was clean, but the bathroom was not perfect. There was fungus growing on the water pipes.

The location is perfect to walk to most of the important sights and museums of Athens, and the metro is close by. I also found the sovenir shops in the aea cheaper than the ones in the centre.

Food: Hotel breakfast was not perfect (and it was the duty time of the surly manager... service with a smile), but nearby there was a very good greek place, where you can eat good greek food accompanied by great greek wine. When I needed a change, there were very cheap Indian and Chinese near the hotel.

I intend to go back to Athens for a holiday this year and plan to stay again in the Marina.

“very good hotel for a very cheap price!!!”

Marina Hotel Athens

Well, i have read reviews before booking this hotel and I saw that it was not bad placed compared to other 3 -4 star hotels in Athens.

In fact this hotel offers a very good service compared to the price you pay for it. I paid 120 euros for a 3 nights double room (breakfast included), finally the service was certainly superior to that price.

The Hotel is located in a central area (Omonia square), it is true that the surroundings are not very clean, but it is not a disaster as described by other reviewers. In fact Omonia square is not more the square where you find only junkies people ( i was there for the first time 8 years ago and it was really a terrible place...), it is a renewed place, with new hotels and shops.

The room size is ok, staff works hard and very well for making rooms clean. Moreover, the hotel is quit as it is located in a small street where there is not too much traffic. And believe me, these things are difficult to find in Athens...

Breakfast is ok, if you 're americans probably you will find it too poor. They serve milk, tea, coffee (very soft taste), juice, cakes, honey, eggs, bread. I have heard that in other hotels is worst...

Receptionist is a very kind and sociable person, he helped me to find the location of my conference and other advises.

Finally, i can say that i l certainly advise this hotel to all persons i know they are going to Athens.
