Stayed here for four days in August, 2006. The room was fairly decent for a hotel of this class. There were two twin beds, a large flat-screen TV, a desk with a broadband internet connection, and a couch and a small coffee table. There wasn't a great deal of closet space. The bathroom was clean and large with a jacuzzi. There was no balcony and no view to speak of.
There was breakfast downstairs in the dining area, which was a standard continental buffet. The lobby was small but clean and comfortable with a small bar.
The hotel itself is situated away from the downtown area and may be a bit inconvenient if you have to be at the center of it all. The residential area it was located in is quiet. It's about a five minute walk to the closest major thoroughfare, Syngrou Ave., where you can catch a bus that'll take you downtown in 5-10 minutes, and the buses typically run fairly often. One can buy tickets from the kiosk right behind the bus stop. It's about a 10 minute walk to the tram, and about a 20 minute walk to the metro. One could theoretically walk straight down Syngrou all the way to the center...it's about a 30 minute walk.
As a quick aside, here's some quick Athens bus tips:
-If you're planning on making multiple bus trips, buy several tickets at once, as on occasion, kiosks do run out of them.
-Once on the bus, stamp the ticket in one of the many units that are throughout the vehicle and hang on to it. There's inspectors that pass around randomly to check tickets and there is a fine if you have one that isn't stamped, or don't have one at all.
-Discard your tickets when you get off the bus (same applies to the beautiful Athens metro as well), so that you don't confuse them with any unused tickets.
Anyhow, there were some problems with the hotel as well. Location wasn't a big deal to us and we knew that going in, but the main issue was with the internet access. I plugged my laptop into the outlet in the room and had immediate connectivity...didn't have to activate anything as is usually in the case in most hotels. It also wasn't evident that there was a charge for internet access, so we were surprised upon check-out to have a pretty hefty bill for internet usage, which is charged, apparently, in 30 minute increments. Be aware of this going in and ask at the front desk to make sure what the rates are...and time yourself accordingly.
Reception staff varied...some were very accommodating and helpful, some weren't, like the late night guy we dealt with upon check-out where we found out about the internet charges.
Overall it was a lukewarm experience...I may have considered a higher rating if it wasn't for the confusion regarding internet access and also proximity to public transport.
