“Room No. 501 Makes the Eridanus a Treat”

The Eridanus is a fine hotel located on busy Piraeus Street, across from the Kerameikos Cemetary, a few blocks from the archaeological promenade, which winds around the southern part of the Acropolis, and several blocks from the nearest Metro station. Our pleasant stay there was due mainly to our room, No. 501, which is on the top floor with rooms (the hotel's restaurant, Parea, is above, on the roof), and which has a large outdoor patio with a dining table and a terrific view of the Acropolis. The highlight of our stay was having a simple dinner (including french fries among the best I've had) from Parea on our patio where we enjoyed the privacy, the warm evening air, and the view of the Acropolis. This opportunity alone recommends the Eridanus. Our room was spacious and clean, and included a large flat-screen television, and the service and complimentary breakfast were very good. The drawbacks were that the hotel did not offer a public computer with access to the Internet (although Wi-Fi was available to those who brought their own computer); its location on a noisy street (although in No. 501 noise from the street was slight); and its distance of several minutes by foot from both the Metro and the area around the Acropolis. But these were small trade-offs for the experience of staying in No. 501. I strongly recommend that room if you choose the Eridanus.

My girlfriend and I (19 and 22 respectively) stayed with Eridanus on 5/22 for one night before heading off to Mykonos and then Santorini.

Location: We were pleasantly surprised with the location of this hotel, as it is a short scenic walk up to the Acropolis with many charming cafes and shops to stop in along the way. The only drawback is that there is about a block walk to this area as the hotel is located off of a main streat a minute or two away (but this was not a drawback for anything other than slight curb appeal)

I used trip advisor to choose this hotel and after hearing some people complain about the noise from the street at night, I did not hear a peep (granted our room did not face street side)

Room: We stayed in a deluxe room (149E/night when we booked) I found this room to be slightly smaller than I expected based on the pictures, however I assume that this is the same with any hotel in Athens and we believed our room was great value for the money.

The room was furnished extremely nicely with a flat screen tv, desk, comfortable queen bed and a nice wooden balcony (however it viewed the building next door - this is our one complaint from our stay). Usually I would not comment on the bathrooms of our room unless there was a problem, however we were really impressed with it. Hermes soaps/toiletries as mentioned in other posts and beautiful forest green marble. There was a bathtub in our room as well as a separate shower - however interestingly enough the toilet was placed in shower (with heads vertically along the wall to hit your body as well). It was far enough to not be an inconvenience at all and as odd as it sounds it worked out just fine - I actually used that shower rather than the separate one. Ample closet space as well. In addition, there was a very cool electronic menu at the door that you could press a button for "do not disturb" or "please clean room" etc as well as a doorbell outside the room (although I'm not quite sure if it was functioning properly.

Service: The reception and bellboy were of great service and were helpful in accomodating our questions and needs

Breakfast: We took an early taxi to Mykonos and missed breakfast, but the set up looked extremely nice. The receptionist arranged for us to be able to get coffee at around 7:30am even though breakfast had not started yet.

Overall, I found Eridanus to be an amazing hotel and especially for the value. My only advice would be a possible suggestion to actually book the standard room rather than the deluxe. You save around 10E and I believe (although I would highly advise that you contact them to double check) that the standard room overlooks the nice garden rather than the building next door.

The hotel in of itself was very modern and quite cool. The room was great. The bathroom was by far the greatest part. It was all green marble. It had the most amazing Hermes beauty products at your disposal.

The hotel did not have a view of anything, aside from the building next to it. The best way I could explain the hotel, is that it seems very New York. Its well hidden from the sidewalk in between the other buildings. It is small. However, the designer and architect made great use with the space. The moment you walk in, you're suprised that so much could be done with such limited space.

The hotel had complimentary breakfast in the morning, which was good. However, after the two previous hotels I visited while in Greece, it did not compare.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful.

The biggest problem with the hotel is location! It is far from everything in a not very so great looking neighbrohood. Its actually a bit disappointing.

“Great Upgrade”

We arrived at the Eridanus with a scary late night cab ride from the airport. We were greeted by the excellent front desk staff and our room was upgraded to an Acropolis view room. Our friends that arrived the next day didn't get an upgrade because the hotel was full but the staff was very accomodating.
The rooms were very comfortable although the shower is somewhat odd with the toilet in the shower area.
One of the best restaurants in Athens, Varoulko, is right next door.
The hotel's breakfast buffet is one of the best I've had.

After spending many stays at five star chain hotels (Hilton, Sheraton etc.) the Hotel Eridanus provided somewhat of a refreshing feeling. Those other hotels know that they can charge what they want for any ammenity, but the Eridanus was different and that is why I liked it so much.

The area itself is close but not in the center of town. The hotel is a short walk to the Thissio metro station as well as numerous bars and cafes (close to the metro station), night clubs (around the corner), some churches (across the street) and two synagogues (two blocks away). It's design is very elegant and the area is definently up and coming.

The rooms were spacious, clean and full of amenities like 24 internet access for 9.50 Euros compared to 2 euros for five minutes at the Hilton Athens. The soft drinks in the mini bar were free of charge and the bathroom kits were of high quality.

The staff was extremely helpful too. I asked for help with going to a football match in Athens, and they provided me with a list of matches, times, prices and directions for how to reach the stadium.

The only problem you can have with this hotel is if your room faces the street and you are a very light sleeper. The street is not too noisy but could bother light sleepers. Other than that, if I ever go back to Athens I will return to this hotel.
