Our family of 5 stayed 4 nights at the AVA Hotel in early January 2008. We were lucky to arrive on New Year's day as there was an assortment of delicious Greek cakes and drinks awaiting in the small but pleasant foyer. We knew we were in good hands the moment we arrived because we were in dispute with the 2 taxi drivers who brought us from the airport. They decided between themselves to increase the metered fare by 10 euros each, up from 30 to 40 euros - a total of 80 euros was demanded. We thought that was a bit much & asked for the help of the AVA ladies. They spoke with the drivers and were able to resolve the matter to our satisfaction and relief.

Check in was quick and very friendly. We were immediately given a map and directions to the main sights. Our executive apartment comprised one separate master bedroom, a large lounge dining area with kitchen, and a very clean bathroom. There was only one TV in the lounge - a second TV in the bedroom would have been better. The fold out sofa bed was comfortable, and we had a spare single bed as well. The kitchen had sufficent utensils and supplies for our stay.Housekeeping even did the dishes which was a bonus!

Champagne and crackers/nuts/sweets etc were brought to us as a welcome gift, we were delighted with that special touch. Not sure if this was because it was New Year's day or whether this is standard.

We were on the second floor facing the street. There was only a bit of noise on one night, otherwise it was nice & quiet. We preferred to use the stairs each day as the lift is very small.
The breakfast which was included in the rate was fine. Nothing fantastic, but an adequate buffet. The coffee was always hot, it was great to squeeze our own orange juice each morning, & the Greek cakes & crusty bread were delicious. The prepared scrambled eggs weren't the best. We did suggest that they offer other egg options such as boiled or poached, One day they did have boiled eggs. They also had bacon/sausages/cold meats/cheeses.

What made the AVA so special was the friendliness of all the staff, the cleanliness of the large well appointed suites, and its brilliant location in Plaka. Highly worthy of its number 1 place on Tripadvisor.

Stayed four nights at the Ava in November.

Location excellent and able to walk to all the top sights. Service very good when we arrived, but subsequently not quite as helpful.

Breakfast buffet covered all our needs and was good quality.

We had an Executive Suite and found that to be large, clean and well presented. Only problem was street noise (all night), so suggest rooms that face the inner courtyard.

What a gem! This small boutique hotel provided a friendly home away from home for our three-day stay in Athens over New Year's.

The location is fabulous. AVA is just off the main street in the heart of the Plaka district, virtually across the street from Hadrian's Arch and with a view of the Acropolis. We were close to all the major sites and management had thoughtfully furnished the room with a walking guide to Athens that we put to good use.

On arrival, we were warmly welcomed. I had mentioned via e-mail prior to arrival that one of our sons would be celebrating a birthday during our stay and apparently that information had been added to our file, since the desk clerk inquired which son and extended her congratulations to him.

Our two-room suite was spacious with a small kitchen and a balcony. As I had requested, we had a balcony with a view of the Acropolis. The bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable with good reading lamps. There were also good thermostats in each room so we could adjust the temperature to our comfort. Even though the couch in the living room was extended into a double bed and a twin bed had been added to accommodate our two teenagers, there was still plenty of space in which several comfortable chairs and a TV were grouped giving us space to relax. In addition there was a desk and a small dining table. Management also provided a dish of snacks as a complimentary welcome gift. On the second day we also received a platter of sweets and chocolates with a card congratulating my son on his birthday. Touches like that helped make our stay very special.

Everything, including the kitchen and bath were very clean. The only possible improvement in the furnishings would have been a larger shower. It was quite small with a door of about 18 inches. I was reminded of a shower of about the same dimensions that I had encounted in Rome a number of years ago when I was very, very pregnant, in which I actually got stuck trying to get out of the door. Fortunately that was not a problem this time, although it explains why I'm particularly sensitive about that issue!

Breakfast, which was included, was terrific. It included a nice assortment of cereals, cold meats and cheeses, scrambled eggs and hot breakfast meats, juices, including the option to squeeze your own fresh orange juice, and assorted cakes that my sons deemed some of the best they had eaten in Greece! In the afternoons, there was a tray of sweets and juices. There was also a small seating area on the first floor with a TV and a small bar in the event you wanted to relax outside of your private room. Computer terminals with internet access were also available, free of charge.

Overall, I recommend the AVA very highly, especially for families. We were very comfortable during our stay. The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. They were particularly helpful with restaurant suggestions and reservations. More than just a space to sleep, AVA really cares for its guests and does everything it can to make your stay comfortable, memorable and relaxing.

“Friendly staffs and nice location”

Just at the end of last December, I stayed this hotel with a one-year-old baby and my wife.
The stay was just 2 nights but it was enough for us to feel the very friendly hospitality by the hotel staffs. The hotel provides their hand-made guide book which contains a lot of useful area information of restaurants, cafes, shops, tourisms and so on. Unfortunately because we took a small baby with us, we had no chance to try these restaurants and cafes.
This hand-made guide book gave us the warm and sincere impressions of the hotel staffs.
And the kitchen was well maintained, clean and easy to use.
And especially it’s very close location to the famous sightseeing points such as the Acropolis, the Temple of the Olympian Zeus and the Hadrian's Arch.
If we visit Athens again in the future, we would like to stay this hotel once more.
