My partner and I stayed at the Baby Grand over the weekend, and we did not have a good start. To be honest, the room felt average, compared to the Junior Suite we had booked and paid for. Ok, it was very different, Greek influences in a modern room. Amenities were good - local Korres products that I do love. However, when you ask for a king size bed, you do not expect to get twin beds put together, especially on a weekend trip with your partner for Valentines Day! We were not happy, and further not happy with regards to the customer service we found at reception. They were well mannered, however, their juggling of numerous customers at the one time did not appeal to us, in particular when we had problems in the first place. Also, try to stay away from the taxi's they arrange for - instead of costing €10 to get from the hotel to a particular destination, the taxi driver (with illegal meter pacers assummably - we had the same problem in Budapest) charged us double!
In terms of location, we were told Omonia Square is not the best place to stay in Athens, as it is quite seedy and dodgy. This was our second trip to Athens, and it didn't make it feel as special as the first time - definitely recommend the Art Hotel, where we stayed at last year. Not only is it cheaper (I think around £80 per night) but you get friendly service from a family-owned and run hotel, plus brilliant breakfast included (Baby Grand does not include breakfast, and the room service we ordered was less than ordinary) - see my review of that elsewhere in TripAdvisor.

Last November, I stayed in the Baby Grand for 3 nights . My room was very comfortable, clean and nicely decorated (Well...the tiger over the bed was a little over the top, but understandable as design statement ). The Hotel has a very trendy atmosphere. The front desk tables are Minis (see pictures)
The location of the Hotel is extraordinary, the Market is across the street and the Subway just one block away.
It is walking distance from most of the city highlights and the best restaurants.
The Hotel entrance is very cool and the Restaurant has good service and great appetizers
If you book your room with time you could get a better deal

My husband and I just returned from Greece. We stayed at the Baby Grand Hotel for 3 nights. This is a unique boutique hotel. There are several other properties within this chain of hotel - Classical Hotels. Check-in/out easy. The hotel staff was friendly and couteous. Each room is uniquely decorated. We had a standard room with a king bed which was small by American standardes but it was fine. The hotel is centrally located within walking distance to the Platka. Buffet breakfast was tasty. I would recommend this hotel but note that the rooms are small. The hotel is well kept.

“Rooms are too small”

Baby Grand Hotel

To be fair, this is a very unique hotel. The decor is is quite novel and the Mini Coopers that form the reception are great. Also great is the food at the Meat Me restaurant and in-room dining food.

We were very disappointed with the size of our room. The room was tiny and smelled a little stale. I guess we were expecting a bigger room based on what we saw on the website but what we got was tiny. Also did not have any view. I have read some reviews that say that the 8th floor rooms have a better view but we were lower and looked out at an old building.

The hotel is at a good location and walking distance to many interesting places. It certainly is a unique botique hotel but I'm pretty sure you can get a bigger room in Athens for the same price.

“A Happy Accident”

Baby Grand Hotel

We were moved to the Baby Grand by another hotel in the Classic Hotels chain, the Acropol (a decent business-class hotel a couple blocks away) when there was a problem with our room. I was a little concerned about being moved to another hotel - you read about unfortunate travelers being "scammed" this way quite a bit.

No scam here - in fact, the Classic Hotels people did us a real favor. The room rate we got at the Baby Grand was the same as the rate we would have paid at the Acropol hotel... even though rooms at the Baby Grand are about double that rate normally.

As has been stated elsewhere, the Baby Grand is an experience. The mini-cooper desks in the lobby, the stylish (if, in some cases, a little creepy) grafiti art in the halls and in the room, the excellent service... this hotel is definitely a gem.

To be fair, the neighborhood is a little scary after dark... stick to the main street and don't go down the side streets if you can avoid it. Also, I never would have paid the standard room rate being a "cheap" traveler by nature... but this little accident was a real joy. If you've got the money to pay for a night or two in this hotel, it's worth the trip.
