I stayed in Magna Grecia hotel with my wife and nine year old son for five nights during March 2007. The location of the hotel is perfect and the view of Acropolis, particularly during the night is awesome. The attitude of the hotel staff was very nice and helpful. They organised my taxi from the airport and also did the same when I went to the port to catch the Mykonos ferry. They even served us breakfast much earlier than their scheduled time as we had to catch our tour bus by 0830 hrs on two occasions. The location of the hotel made it possible for us to explore Plaka, Acropolis, Syntagma and other interesting places on foot. One more plus point was that there is a Starbucks just across the hotel and on the basement there is a big bookshop which carries English books and newspapers. There are a number of eating options nearby and the hotel gave us helpful tips on that. We really liked the food in Platanos and Psara’s. The metro is a three to five minutes walk from the hotel and taxis are available all the time. Be careful though as the reputation of Athens taxis are correct and I got cheated once while going to the museum. I have seen from other reviews that the cathedral bells were disturbing to some people but we did not have a problem with that. My only complain about the hotel is the toilet. It was poorly lighted with dated fixtures and it was really difficult to use the shower head. Considering the charges of the hotel I think they should improve on this issue.

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights in February 2007. I had read the reveiws and decided that the interior rooms would be better due to the noise that some previous reviewers had experienced.

There were 4 in our party and I had booked two interior rooms. When we arrived we were allocated one interior room and one acropolis view room.

I stayed in the interior room and we found this to be very quiet - we could hear the church bells but after the first night you became accustomed to them. However, my sister and her husband stayed in the acropolis view room. The view from this room was lovely but it had its downside, the noise. On the Saturday night every "boy racer" in Athens drove past the window with their music blaring and the road outside was very busy.

The interior room was much bigger and had two beds and a bath, whereas the acropolis view room was smaller and had a shower. The shower cubicle was very small and would not be suitable for larger people as it was impossible to turn around in it.

The breakfast room was very pleasant and had a view of the acropolis. I would say that the hotel was very clean and as previous reviewers had mentioned, the bed linen was pristine clean, but the bath sheets and bathrobes were "chewing gum" white and should be replaced.

The hotel is rated four star - I think this was somewhat overrated. The photographer had done a good job on the website to promote the hotel - it was more "down at heel" than viewed on the website. However, overall we were pleased with our stay and found the staff that we came across very friendly.

I would recommend this hotel because of its cleanliness and its location, but if you are looking for 4 star standard I would suggest you do not book it.

We booked this hotel having read the reviews on Trip Advisor, for a five day winter break. The hotel is very centrally located and has a great view from both the rooftop breakfast room/terrace and from the Acropolis facing rooms. I have read various reviews suggesting a number of problems and would just like to give another point of view. We booked our room six months previously through the hotel's own website and yes I did check back occassionally to confirm the booking, but had no real need to be worried. On arrival we were warmly greeted and made to feel very welcome. Our room was a good size, everything was in working order and it was clean and well looked after. It is true that the acropolis facing rooms do get a bit of bell noise from the Cathederal but it is suprising how you become used to it and eventually don't hear it, and yes the locals do like blaring their car horns and radios till late in the night, but it was rare. During our stay we heard no noise from adjacent rooms. The breakfast was ample for us, a selection of cereal, toast, croissants, juices, eggs and fruit certainly saw us through to lunch, plus it was all fresh and well presented. When it came to check out time, we were allowed to leave our luggage for the rest of the day which made our last day far more full and we did appreciate it. The staff at this hotel were always helpful and polite and for the most part fluent in English and I would recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a unique hotel in a location centrally located for all the sights and transport links. I would be pleased to offer help to anyone requiring it with any issues on this hotel, Athens, restaurants, Easyjet etc etc.

We stayed at the Magna Grecia for 4 nights in January and loved every minute of it. As others mentioned, because there were 3 of us were were in the back of the hotel with no view, but the room was cozy, the beds comfy and for the little time we spent there is was perfect.

The rooftop was perfect for breakfast with a daytime view of the Acropolis and in the evenings we brought back our hot chocolate and Bailey's from the cafe aroud the corner and enjoyed it with the illuminated view of the Acropolis.

The staff was very helpful suggesting our staple restaurant, Thanasis. Great, local food just down the road and at a local price!
We were also surprised by how yummy the Quick Pita just down the street was.

Overall it was a perfect tourist class hotel.

The Magna Grecia Hotel was simply wonderful. We stayed for 8 nights in January. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. We needed a triple room so we had to be on the back side of the hotel without the view of the Acropolis, but the room was very nice with extremely comfortable beds! We made good use of the top floor breakfast room with balcony. This room has a lovely view of the Acropolis. We sat out there practically every night enjoying a glass of wine and the spectacular view.

The hotel is in the best location in Athens - right between Syntagma Square and Monastiraki Square - with good access to the Metro, shopping and great restaurants. The hotel recommended a wonderful restaurant also - Psara's - not to be missed! Some of the reviews mention the chiming of the bells of the cathedral across the street. This was not a problem for us.

Ionnidis Stellios, owner, and all of the staff are to be commended on this wonderful hotel. If you're looking for a charming hotel in a great location and want to avoid the big chain hotels, this is a great choice!
