We stayed at Ochre and Brown just one night as we were returning from Santorini and flying out of Athens the next day. We found the hotel to be a very nicely appointed, small hotel. While the outside neighborhood is, perhaps, not the place to be walking late at night, by oneself, inside the hotel is not a bad place to spend the night. The bathrooms are quite nice -- the shower stalls are spacious (but a bit leaky), the Moulton Brown cosmetics were a hit with my wife, the bed was comfortable, the wifi was easy to make work and free; breakfast was included in our rate and generously portioned. The service at the hotel was doting -- champagne came soon after check-in, they waited until we arrived (past-midnight), and offered maps and suggestions to late night dining. The room rate was a bit steep for what you got. On balance, Ochre and Brown is a nice hotel. Not nearly the most luxurious place you could stay in Athens (check the Grande Bretagne), but likely one of the quainter and nicer ones.

  • Liked — Close to historical sites, nice and well-designed trendy spot inside.
  • Disliked — Neighborhood left something to be desired. Room rate was high.

We stayed at the Ochre and Brown in late September at the beginning of a three week trip in Greece. We loved the hotel! We had a standard room and at first found it a bit small, but once we were unpacked, there seemed to be space for everything. We thought the bathroom was great, but like other reviewers mentioned, some care must be taken when using the shower so the bathroom doesn't get flooded.

The staff was great and very helpful. Breakfast was included in our rate and was delicious, as well as very filling. We also loved the location of the hotel. Just a bit off the beaten path, but within easy walking distance of most of Athens.

we chose ochre & brown for the last few days of our honeymoon because trip advisor promotes it as a great boutique hotel near everything. this is true--it's steps to the acropolis, the agora, and the roman forum...all while being a few blocks from the very fun athens flea market and the trendy, cool neighborhood of psiri.

the hotel itself is a cool, clean place with incredibly responsive (if not entirely knowledgeable) young staff who really want to please. i think their youth makes for a little inexperience--we had a visit from a carpenter to make an unnecessary repair in our room while we were in there taking a nap--which was rather strange, but they offered us free coffee and refreshments for our trouble, so i really believe it was more inexperience than a lack of hospitality.

the other reviewers who warn of showers flooding the bathroom are right--make sure to take precautions before you turn on those lovely, luxurious showers, or you'll end up with a swimming pool in the bathroom (and, in our case, the bedroom too!)

the restaurant serves a great breakfast, but it's incredibly expensive--so I'd avoid it and find a coffee and croissant somewhere nearby.

at first glance, the hotel isn't in a fantastic neighborhood, but it's literally 2 blocks from one of the most fun, attractive neighborhoods in all of athens...so don't be decieved.

all in all, it was a fine hotel--but for the cost, i'd try somewhere else.

My 3 girlfriends and I spent 3 nights at this hotel before heading to the Islands. Couldn't have had better service. Upon arrival they showed me to my room and offered me a glass of wine or champagne. The rooms were spacious, modern, comfortable and clean. Everyone that worked behind the front desk was extremely helpful and went out their way to accommodate our every need. They made great restaurant recommendations - even for restaurants in Mykonos & Santorini. I found the hotel to be nicely located - walking distance to everything. I would highly recommend this hotel!

Hotel is located in an excellent location. Not even a 5 min walk to the Acropolis. Staff was excellent. Welcoming and friendly. The rooms were clean and modern. Had all the ammenities needed. Even used and offered Molton Brown bath products! We recommend this hotel to anyone that want to be near the must see sites. A definite!
