Our travel company let us down, and we were moved to this accomodation by them to compensate. After a night of arriving to a destination where they had no record of my reservation, we would have been happy to accept anywhere.
The view here was super, as the hotel apartments are scattered all around the hill...there are indeed plenty of lovely lush plants. BUT but - the time we spent in this place was hell because of the mozzies and the heat. You must decide: will I bake in the room but not get bitten? Or get bitten but be cool?
The lady in charge was friendly enough (!) when we arrived and paid, but told us to keep our windows closed during the daytime, and open at night with shutters closed... or was it the other way around??
The room became warmer and warmer, so we tried both ways... opening the windows and shutting the shutters. Then shutting the windows but opening the shutters.
Anytime we had ANYthing open, mosquitoes flew in. We were hysterical with laughter because anytime any of us stopped concentrating, they were buzzing in our ears or we would see one on any exposed skin. After several hours of this, we were all going demented. It became a long night of no sleep and complete paranoia about being bitten. And this was a night with no wine, we dealt with it sober!
When I went to the boss to request a fan, she dropped her smile and became sharp with me, insisting I had done something wrong, and should have kept everything closed. If I had kept everything closed the room would have stayed cool.
I rang the travel company in the middle of the night asking would they please move us again, and they called me back on the boss's phone. She stood there while I took the call and wanted to hear what was going on.
So you get the picture.
The area has a good supermarket but the hill down from these apartments is extremely steep. We recommend removing any shoes as you can lose your footing easily going down or back up.
I wouldnt come back to the area again, if I had wanted such close proximity to Cretan insect life I would have brought a tent.
