I have been a frequent visitor to Crete in general (and Hania in particular) over many years, principally for the magnificent walking opportunities in the Lefka Ori and along the South Coast.I invariably start and finish my trips in Hania, which I have come to regard as a favoured city, mainly for its beautiful harbour area.I first stayed at this hotel many years ago, when it was under different ownership and before it had been refurbished.I returned in September 2006 and was impressed by how much it had improved. To start with, the ladies at reception were charming, friendly and helpful. The room I stayed in on my first two nights was standard issue without frills but perfectly OK.On my return from the South Coast the hotel upgraded me to a third floor suite overlooking the harbour and this was outstanding, with great views - try to get a second or third floor room or suite overlooking the harbour if one is available,it will be worth the extra, particularly if you are intending to spend a certain amount of time in your room. The hotel's location could hardly be better - right on the (quieter) inner harbour, with masses of bars and tavernas within a short stroll, access to parking nearby if you have a car and only a ten minute walk to the (excellent) bus station.Breakfast was served in an airy room overlooking the harbour and was fine.I doubt whether there is a better hotel in Hania, certainly of its kind.
