Akali hotel has supposedly undergone refurbishment. I stayed on the 3rd floor in room 311. The bathroom was stunning clean, modern, with brand new towels. The room itself was spacious the bed matresses new, chrisp ironed spotless white sheets. Thre were definitely signs of refurbishment. Unfortunately the old carpet was kept and this made the room look old and dirty. Breakfast was very good with a wide selection of teas, coffee (filter, italian, greek) fresh milk, cheese, cold cuts, omelettes, eggs bacon sausages, plenty of fruit (you could even squeeze your own fresh orange juice on the spot) cereals, bread, jams, cakes, croissant, even a greek sweet called loukoumades. The pool though small was clean with plenty of sunbeds. The location is not great about 10 min walking on a road with no pavements to the new town centre and another 5 to the Venetian port. It is located in the old industrial zone with the soap factory AVEA just across the street. The advantage though is that unlike the more central hotels there is Parking. The staff are very friendly and polite, willing to help. My room was very noisy on Kisamou Str and the Aircon was not working properly.
Bus stop across the road for the beaches Chrysi Akti, Agii Apostpli and Kalamaki (10-15 min away) Kiosk across the road. AVEA soap factory shop across the road (try soap bars with olive oil and honey)
Eat at Tamam, Well of the Turk, Konaki. See the church of St Nicolas in Splanzia Sq. Try eating local specialities like Bougatsa (cheese pie with cinamon and sugar- optional) at the traditional Iordanis Shop.
