“LOVED Palazzo di Pietro”

Palazzo di Pietro

I should have written this review months ago, as my husband and I stayed here during part of our honeymoon back in August 2006! We had a wonderful stay in Palazzo's honeymoon suite. It was very clean and welcoming, and every detail was paid attention to. Christine, the hostess, was very helpful and friendly, and speaks perfect english. We also enjoyed the balcony overlooking the old Venetian street that the building is located on.

We couldn't have picked a better place to stay in the Chaina and greater region than this hotel, and the price is just an added bonus! Thanks for helping make our stay in Crete amazing!

We stayed at Palazzo di Pietro for seven days at the end of October for our honeymoon. We could not have picked a better place to spend the middle part of our trip.
We stayed in the top floor honeymoon suite which was very nicely decorated with flower petals on the bed when we arrived. After settling in, we spent a bit of time up on the roof top garden which was a beautiful place to relax.
The suite was very spacious with a kitchenette/living room area and a four poster bed. The balcony overlooking the pathway had a great view of the Metropolitian Church bell tower.
In addition to the fantastic accomodations, Christine and her Mom and Dad made for fantastic hosts. They went out of there way to get us anything that we needed and helped with everything from showing us where the sights were in Chania, to helping to rent a car.
The Palazzo is a short walk to the harbor where there are more than enough restaurants and bars. We liked being away from the main tourist areas since we didn't get much noise from the crowds.
We highly recommend a stay at Palazzo di Pietro.

“Old World Charm”

Palazzo di Pietro

The hotel is filled with Old World Charm. It's definitely more of a B&B than a Hotel. Service is friendly, although I understand those who say it is TOO friendly as it is difficult to get in and out without talking with Christine. But on the positive end, she found us the cheapest car rentals (she even arranged it so that we could drop the car off at Heraklion ferry.), gave us some traditional Greek desserts, and pointed us to some really yummy restaurants!
This hotel is aim towards those who don't mind missing some of the amenities in return for warmth and generosity.

“Not as good as the reviews!”

We stayed at this hotel last year. As usual we read all the reviews for the hotel before we booked as we have always found reviews very reliable and agreed in the past. We paid over £100 per night for our stay and were very much looking forward to it.

The good bits..... Hotel location is good. Close to all the shops and restaurants and 10 mins walk from the nearest beach (however this beach isn't very good and it's 10mins bus/car ride to a good beach, but if you stay there then you are 10 mins bus/car from the shops and best restaurants so I guess you need to decide what your priority is). Room was large, very clean and the bed was very comfortable and beautifully decorated with flowers when we arrived. Furniture in the bedroom was of high quality. The hotel is on a quiet side street and the outside building is beautiful.

When in Crete, definitely visit Elafonissi beach which is amazing and go to the Samaria Gorge. You will need proper sturdy shoes to walk the 16km gorge so do not leave home without them (they are expensive to buy in Chania!) but the trek is a must do!! Crete itself was lovely and there is no hassle in shops and crime to tourists is low.

The bad bits.... Christine is sooo friendly that it is very difficult to leave or enter the hotel without telling here where you are going or where you have been. Some people clearly like this but we prefer to come and go as we please.

The bathroom was not very well decorated. Bath was small and there was a large crack in the mirror. The hairdryer was also very poor so make sure you bring your own!!

The hotel does not serve food or drink but there was a handy cooker and fridge in our room. The fridge was filled with fruit, chocolates and greek wine which sounds lovely but the wine is homemade and one grade above vinegar and the chocolates are from Lidl (if you look at the back) not what you would expect from a top quality boutique hotel.

A final warning... Don't forget your room keys!! We mislaid ours and were told if we didn't find them then we would need to pay for all the new locks to be fitted to the hotel entrance, our room and pay for a replacement room safe!! We could not believe it as it was going to cost us £000's!! Luckily we found our keys and didn't have to pay. Very stressful experience. We could not believe that a hotel was so stupid to make their room keyrings so recognisable that if someone lost a key they would need to do this!!

We would not stay at this hotel again.
