Only just signed up to TripAdvisor, so this is a late entry, but wanted to give our experience here anyway. We decided to organise a family gathering, all of our children, their partners and our grandchildren, in one place for once - they live across the continents. We searched for five days solid on the net for our requirements, and Stavros villas was really the only one that totally fitted our bill, (apart from a $25,000 place on Mykonos...) There were 22 of us, we wanted our own spaces but not with dozens of other people (selfish I know!), and beach, taverna, pool and paddling pool, and a laid-back atmosphere. We got all of this, and much more. Driving there from Chania airport we went through Platanias, a tourist strip town, and some scrubby roads, and we wondered what the place would be like - but it was a Greek oasis, oleander and other flowering bushes and trees, and right on the beach! It became our home for two weeks, and the Pardalakis family were wonderful to us. Despina and co are great cooks, and the younger children fell in love with calamari, while we did the same for her kleftiko. Several times we asked for a particular meal and the next day we got it.
Chania is a great town, really the best for architecture in Crete we think, and there are many other places to see and to explore. But of course for us hanging out with the family was what we wanted, and we could do that all day, in and around the pool and the taverna, and then have a big, slow meal together in the evening - heaven!
As we were having a family celebration, the organisation - choosing which villas etc - took some doing, and what was very useful was having a contact number in the UK as well as in Greece. June Pardalakis was brilliant at helping us sort all of this out - sensitive and understanding of our needs.
This of course is Greece. So we did expect Greek plumbing and laissez-faire. (What do they say? 'Avrio' is the same as manana, but much less urgent...). It doesn't have phones let alone broadband connections in the rooms, the A/C can be a bit temperamental, you don't get a turn-down service (although our first night we got a bunch of fresh picked flowers on our bed). But we got what we wanted - a very family-friendly place in a great location on a great island.
