My family recently travelled to the city of Hania in Crete for the Greek Easter. Not all hotels are open at that time, so we surfed the internet for a good hotel. We found what looked like a beautiful boutique hotel, Ifigenia and Captain Vassilis in a venetian building in the old harbour. The photographs on the web site looked lovely - just what we wanted. We booked 2 rooms for 7 nights, and were asked by the owner for 2 nights deposit. 180 euros was paid. We arrived at 5 pm on the Tuesday evening and after dragging our cases up to reception, were told to bring them down again as the rooms were in a different building. We hauled our cases to another place and after climbing up the stairs were dismayed to see our rooms. There was no room to move, the twin beds we had booked were a double metal framed bed, the sheets had make-up and blood on them,, the toilet was broken and the showers were dirty. The view from 1 room was straight onto a wall, not the sea as we had been told. We had to find another hotel and the owner refused to refund our deposit - he didn't even come to the accomodation when we asked his rude receptionist to get him there. The alternative hotel we found was the Hotel Lucia, right on the harbour - fantastic views, big rooms, very nice owner and staff and it was cheaper too! Highly recommend that one though!
