During our trip to Greece we stayed in 5 different hotels and we booked Casa Leone based on the incredible reviews based on other tripadvisor reviews. Out of the 5 hotels, this was our most expensive and least favorite.
Our first experience with Casa Leone left a sour taste in our mouth. Prior to leaving Athens, we called the hotel to ask them how much a cab ride would cost from the port to the hotel. They quoted us $10. When we returned to our hotel in Athens to pick up our luggage, they told us Casa Leone called and would be picking us up themselves. We thought, wow, awesome!
Our boat arrived about 45 minutes after it was supposed to and there was a nice lady with a sign with our names on it when we got there. Good so far. She took us to a cab and we drove to the hotel. When we got there, she told us the cab ride was 70 euros! We were shocked. We did not request a private transfer, we merely called to inquire about the cost of a cab, and yes it was true our boat was late but there was no way it warranted a 7x increase in the price of the cab ride. We insisted that we didn't have that much on us and ultimately she relented and only asked us for 10 euro to give to our cab driver. Although crisis was averted this left us feeling quite unsettled.
Our room was not ready for us yet as we booked a less expensive room but out of 5 rooms, I think they only had 1 room occupied. The owners did not offer to give us a complimentary upgrade even though the other rooms were available and that was fine but we ultimately decided to pay for the upgrade as the "honeymoon suite" was quite nice for 150 euros.
The room is beautiful, venetian decor, wrought iron, mosquito net, and even swans on the bed. Very romantic and it does transport you to a different world. It also had a large beautiful balcony that overlooked the Old Town Harbor. The bathroom is quite small although it suited our needs. We did have an ant problem on the balcony and we told the owner this but he already knew it.
Besides the taxi scare, our biggest gripe about Casa Leone is that we did not feel the owners were hospitable. "Nick" did not help us with our luggage even though it was on the second floor so we had to lug it up ourselves. We came back in the afternoon to find the place empty, (they give you keys to the front door) so it was kind of eery as no one greeted us or offered us any advice on things to do. When we came back in the evening, Nick was there watching football with a friend and he didn't even get up to ask us how our day was or come up for small talk (we were only 1 of 3 sets of guests staying at the hotel) and expected better treatment since this was a bed and breakfast type of hotel which was supposed to be charming. Breakfast was fine and the lady who served us breakfast was really friendly and nice. Too bad she wasn't working the day we arrived.
We wish we could have had a better experience to report about Casa Leone but wanted to write an honest opinion of our stay there. For the price and the service, we cannot recommend this hotel.
