This is a destination for those who like to get off the beaten path. My husband and I spent three days of our honeymoon in an apartment here. This was actually our favorite part of the trip. I have never nor do I expect to ever encounter better hospitality in my life. Maria (owner) treated us as if we were old family friends. When we arrived she welcomed us with beverages, homemade cheese, breads, and olives from the family farm. In our room she had homemade pastries and a bottle of wine waiting. We were given homemade cheese everyday! She was helpful, friendly, and warm every time we encountered her. She even gave us gifts from the farm when we left.

The hotel consists of three rooms and three spacious apartments (all very reasonably priced). The apartments can sleep up to six people. Our travel agent recommended we get an apartment since they have decks overlooking the village of Axos and the surrounding mountains. On a clear day you can even see the sea. Well-worth it! At night, we could watch the locals bring their sheep and goats off the mountains and herd them through the streets of town to their homes. The apartments were very well-furnished and comfortable with the necessary cooking equipment. Even if you rent an apartment, I would highly recommend having Maria cook dinner for you one night. She made us dinner one night, and it was fantastic!

We rented a car to get to Axos and then spent the days hiking in the local area. There was no nightlife in the village, but if you want a relaxing true Greek experience—this is it! And again, the hospitality is absolutely wonderful!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Yakinthos in the first week of September 2007. It is ideally located for the airport – about a 20-30 minute drive, but no aircraft noise at the hotel. The hotel is located with a fairly main road on one side (not too noisy but not particularly tranquil) and is right behind the Ammos Hotel (very highly rated hotel in Chania). It is only a 25 metre walk to the clean, sandy beach which has a selection of tavernas serving drinks and food throughout the day and evening, so we weren’t stuck for somewhere to eat lunch.

The room had everything we needed for our stay: fridge with a freezer box, compact bathroom designed as a wetroom, comfortable beds, good sized balcony. Breakfast wasn’t great – there was a limited selection and if you went down after about 9am cooked items (of which there were few) tended to have gone cold. It was very basic (cereal, eggs, cold meats, fruit in juice, yoghurt) but, for the good cost of the hotel, we weren’t overly concerned. There is a good sized shop over the road selling water, food, suncream etc. Confusingly, the hotel bar never seemed to be open. The hotel is about 4km outside Chania – too far to walk – so we spent around 7Euros each way on taxis (about a 10 minute drive). Staff were always helpful and booked taxis to town for us. Chania has plenty of shops, bars and restaurants to entertain. The hotel is about a 20Euro return taxi fare from the Limnoupolis Water Park, which was a great day out, particularly in September as it was reasonably quiet. The midday boat trip from Chania harbour with Captain Nick was also well worth it.

I would recommend the Yakinthos to people who are looking for a hotel with a good beach close by, a decent pool, aren’t too concerned about having a luxurious breakfast, and want to enjoy Chania without staying in the hustle and bustle of the town. A decent hotel for a decent price and a good, relaxing holiday with plenty to do in the area.

  • Liked — Beach location with good access to Chania
  • Disliked — Poor breakfast, located close to a busy road

These apartments are now bigger than stated in the Olympic brochure,
29 units instead of 19 and a bar with food served.

The owner and staff here are lovely.
Alex at the bar is especially a hit with the ladies, Free shots most nights with every drink.
Although very basic everything is clean with a maid servise every other day.

Pool area is lovely abd clean, plenty of sunbeds available with the sun all day.

All the staff we came across were really friendly always stopping to say hello and asking how we were.

it is about a 30 min walk to the beach and main bars although there are some situated nearer but these are quieter bars.

We ended up getting a taxi into the town and back most nights which costs about 6 euros each way.
So this does add up.
Overall good apartments just a bit far from the beach and bars but nice and quiet.

We stayed in this super hotel in may 2006, The hotel was beautiful og modern. The rooms were nice and clean, and the people who worked there were very hostfull. Our special regards to Nina for steading our room and to Romeo for always being so conserned when we returned back to the hotel at late nights!
The hotelbreakfest was unforgettable, always with lots of fresh fruit
The pool was lovely, not big, but big enough . Always clean, sorrunded by lots of roses (May!!)
Nice beds, beatiful seaview from lovely balcony, though some noice since they were building a hotel in the neighburhood.
Bussstop right outside brings you quickly to the center of Chania
Regards Nina and Siri from Norway
