My husband and I just returned after a week-long stay at the Blue Palace. Overall it was an enjoyable trip; however it was over-priced for the quality of facilities and service and we are not likely to return. So let me start with the POSITIVES:
- The location of the hotel is amazing. It is nestled in between the mountains on the shore of the Aegean sea. The beach is private and truly beautiful with the clear blue water. Blue Palace has a diving pier, and it was great to by-pass the pebbles on the shore and dive right into the warm, clear water. The beach area also has a large pool, a bar and a restaurant. The best moments of our vacation were spent on the beach.
- Breakfast buffet, which is included in your stay was another great plus. It featured a huge selection of fresh fruits, cold cuts, local yogurts, hot food, etc. It was really a great way to start the day.
And now on to the NEGATIVES. One thing to keep in mind is that i applied pretty high standards to this $700+ a day property, and many things fell short of my expectations.
- First, the rooms are really poorly designed. Half of the so called "bungalow" is taken by the lobby/hallway and the closet. The bedroom (which is the only living space) is tiny. My legs were all bruised from bumping into the furniture as I tried to make my way through the room. Also, as other reviewers have pointed out, it is not a standalone building as the name would imply but rather a simple hotel room with very limited privacy (one morning there was a cigarette butt floating in our plunge pool from the balcony above)
- Service is really spotty. The hotel put several charges mistakenly on our bill and when i pointed it out, I was treated very poorly by the front desk person (almost implying that I was lying). They were eventually able to get to the bottom of it by calling the appropriate departments. But the whole experience left a really bad taste in my mouth.
- The WiFi connection in the rooms does not work. I had to go to the lobby with my laptop and bumped into a couple of guests who had a similar problem.
- The Spa is just OK. I had 3 massages and only one of them was good. One of my masseurs obviously had a cigarette right before the treatment, and his hands were just reeking of tobacco when he was massaging my neck. ugh. Finally, it costs 35 Euro to use Thalasso therapy (a chain of pools). Needless to say nobody ever used them. Typically, at a five star property it is either complementary for all guests or, at the very least, for the guests that have a spa treatment booked.
