We booked a junior suite at the Lato and were thrilled to be told on arrival that we had been upgraded to an executive one.

It was an absolutely lovely suite, with Jacuzzi bath and separate shower/toilet, large living room with CD player and super-comfortable bedroom (didn’t like the animal skin rug, but you can’t have it all).

The balcony was big enough to have thrown a party there and invited all our friends (wish we could have!) You could easily spend your entire holiday out there and go back with an amazing tan. The recliners were also a cut above the norm for hotels. And the view is probably the best from any hotel in Heraklion.

I can’t say anything about the standard rooms because I didn’t see them, and we obviously had tremendous value for money with our upgrade. But even if we’d had the smaller suite, I think we still would have been pleased with it.

I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again if I was visiting Heraklion.

You walk in and it seems promising. Very modern lobby. Looks like a W in the US. Then we got to our room and it was tiny. Well-appointed, but tiny. Again, if we stayed more than one night, we would have needed an upgrade or else my wife and I would have been bumping into each other and our bags the whole time. Nice enough place to stay if you get a large enough room. The breakfast was decent. The staff was helpful. Relatively close to the main square and all the restaurants and cafes.

We had a great experience at the Lato boutique hotel. The rooms are clean and fashionable and some have a great view of the harbor at sunset. The rooms are small by American standards, but normal for a European city. The front desk staff was extraordinarily nice and helpful! They spent a lot of time helping my family plan our trip, schedule tours, get restaurant and ferry information, etc. It is close to the downtown shopping & restaurant area, and a short walk to the bus depot and port.

This was NOT a "boutique hotel". The decor was shabby and tacky, the restaurant on top was terrible, and there was no parking set aside for guests--Overall, a disaster. Small rooms are to be expected in Europe, and that isn't necessarily a detraction, but our room was so small, and the bed placed right next to the wall, in order to get into the bed, one person had to climb over the other!! Bathroom was tacky, and while showering the drain stopped up, and the shower nearly flooded--then after, the drain stunk, so we asked for another room--which was virtually identical to the first so we didn't just have the worst room in the place. I've seen some photos that don't look anything like our room, so maybe they have some rooms that are vastly different than their regualr rooms, but why take a chance?? I would NEVER stay here again. Who said it resembled the W?? Obviously, they've never been to a W...We couldn't find anywhere better in Iraklion, but we disliked this hotel so much, that we would avoid staying in Iraklion because of it. The staff was friendly enough, but we found everyone in Greece to be, so it wasn't a huge plus point. Get your car, see the museum, see Knossos, then keep on driving...
