My boyfriend and I have just returned from our holiday in Camari Gardens. We had a lovely time, the apartments and pools were clean and inviting, and the hotel staff were beyond wonderful. The only things you might want to take into consideration (which have been pointed out on some of the other reviews) is that, you had to pay 5 euros a night for air conditioning (which was much needed!!!), the kitchen was literally a sink, kettle and hob, and more importantly the distance from Rethymno, which is about 5km away and the only way is by hourly bus, car or taxi. We rented a car - which is very advisible if you want to see the best of the island!! The island itself is incredible and i would really suggest exploring as MUCH as possible, a few places i would suggest are, Korna Lake (down the road from the hotel), Chania, Gramvousa Bay, Elafonisi in the south west (white sand tourquise seas and an island you can walk through the sea to get to!) Bali beach and Plakias, -just pick out random places on your map and go!! These are just a SELECT few places to go to, dont just stay in Rethymno!!
I would love to go back and finish off exploring but as much as i loved the hotel i would've prefered to actually be IN the town itself, as it was quite out of the way. Anyway best be off! Have an amazing holiday!!
P.S DON'T mix raki with other drinks, its lethal!!!

We had a great stay at the Camari Gardens the apartments where kept spotless. The staff all family made you feel welcome from the minute you arrived until the minute you left.
The 2 pools were clean and plenty of sun loungers around the pool area.
The food at the restaurant was good value and I would like to compliment the chef as we never had a bad meal the whole time we were there.
The brother/cousins who work in the pool bar, restaurant and shop work hard and are great really helpful and we can see why so many people return time & time again.
The only downside is that you need to have a car or use taxi's or the local buses to get into the town as it is a bit far to walk but then you do know that before you go.
The town Rethymnon is worth a visit especially the older part there are some nice restaurants but be careful around the harbour area always ask the price before ordering.
Yes we would go back again all in all a really nice and relaxing holiday many thanks to all the family and staff of Camari Gardens. Joy & Alan

We went as a large group of friends staying here and had a wonderful holiday. The staff were all fantastic as were the facilities. Our 1 bedroomed apartment was lovely, clean and spacious, even with 4 of us in there.

The only slight problem was that the hotel was some way from the town, so taxis were relied on until we hired cars. The cabs were quite cheap though and very friendly drivers.

The beach at the bottom of the hill was nothing to shout about, in fact in May it was a bit windy, but we like to explore anyway.

The most amazing beach we went to was called Elafonisos on the far south western corner of Crete - the guy at the hire car shop recommended it as the Greek Maldives and it was fabulous - well worth the long car trip through windy narrow roads from Rethymnon. The town of Rethymnon was lovely with winding narrow cobbled streets and gorgeous restaurants. The night life was good with lots of bars and restaurants all wanting your business but in a friendly way horrible pushy as in some countries.

A brilliant place to stay and wonderful island.

We were welcomed with the usual friendliness even though it was 2 years since our last visit. Everyone is as helpful as ever and constantly smiling - even when my husband broke the bedroom mirror! Your holiday here is a quiet or as lively as you want to make it; there is never any pressure to "join in" if you don't want to but if you do you are made more than welcome.

We look forward to returning in the near future.
