This is the first review we have ever written. We went to Creta Palace with some trepidation having read the mixed reviews. We were met graciously at the desk with a welcome glass of orange juice and then shown to our garden bungalow (rm 516). The room was slightly smaller than we had hoped but adequate for us and our 10 & 8 yr old. It was clean, bright and modern but not luxurious. Unfortunately it was also very wet and the pool of water we discovered under the double bed was not left by an over zealous cleaner but an air conditioning unit that was leaking and seaping up through the floor. We decided to change rooms in the morning. This was peak time and we were worried the hotel might be full.

Expecting (and armed) for a battle, we went to reception and asked to speak to the manager who said he would search for another room. We waited no more than 20 mins for him to find a similar ground floor bungalow round the corner and we moved in later that day.

I begin to understand the huge differences in these reviews. Had we stayed in our room our holiday would have been very different. As it was ours opened out onto the freshwater pool (Rm 508), over grass and sunbeds, but just private enough - and was it just that bit bigger?

The food was above our expectation, excellent choice, excellent service and beautiful surroundings. The staff are perfect, not by any means subservient and not over helpful, but quietly efficient. The hotel & its grounds were lovely. The shop was not overpriced (more than the local supermarkets though) and nor were the drinks. Everything seemed designed not to cause stress (with the exception of the dodgy air conditioning units which we learnt blighted most of the number 500's rooms!).

The beach was dissappointing - not for small kids and not for those who love beach holidays, but was clean and a lovely place to walk. The sea shelves sharply and the waves break very close to shore and are quite big.

We loved our 10 days, we didn't use the kids club, the pools were clean but just a tad tired. I would recommend the hotel to anyone IF they stayed in room 508...

We had high expectations of the Creta Palace and initial impressions were very favourable. On arrival at reception we were made very welcome by being given a fresh glass of orange juice. Very nice!
We had booked a family room and had asked to be located close to the childrens pool and we got exactly that, which was great.
The room itself was disappointing with bland decor and basic furniture..certainly not 5 star. The bathroom was very tired with the grout between the tiles being discoloured and the mastic round the bath was mouldy in places, in addition there was rust aound the bath plug hole. It was also very small and had no window. Having said this, our cleaner did the best she could to keep the bathroom clean but there was only so much that she could do.
The kids club, Grecoland, was fantastic. The staff were brilliant with our two children (a girl of 7 and a boy of 4) who had a whale of a time.
The pools were good being both clean and not that crowded.
Food was excellent with wide choices being available at both breakfast and dinner. We also used room service on a few occasions and found that to be very good.
The staff were extremely helpful and really worked hard to give us a good time. This is particularly important to us and went someway to compensating for the quality of the room.
Overall we had a good time and if the accommodation was improved we would return but as it currently stands it is overpriced.

“Awful time, would not return”

We booked our holiday with Thomsons A La Carte to spend one week at the end of June on a half board basis. The flight was fine, on time and we opted for a taxi to take us to the hotel...so far so good. This is where things took a turn for the worse. We arrived at the hotel, waited 10 mins for a receptionist, checked in and were shown to our room. What a dissapointment, it resembled nothing like the photos we had seen on the web, the bathroom was dirty and had mould growing around the seal, the bedroom was very tired and not very clean, the previous guests certainly liked smoking, nothing wrong with that but not great when you have a 5 month old baby and the view was of a grass area with people sunbathing, the windows made the room a total viewing point and impossible to open the curtains. We returned to the front desk to enquire about changing rooms and were informed that it would cost £90 to upgrade, we were shown the room and the only difference you got for £90 was a partial seaview and bvulgari soap, not the best value. Anyway after calling Thomosns we were informed that a rep would call us first thing in the morning, we decided to explore the beach This was awful, full of dogs and when we returned we were covered in tar as was our 2 year old. We then realised what the cotton wool and funny looking machine on the wall was for. Anyway the following day we moved hotels, Thomsons were useless and we ended up having to pay the Creta Palce 3 nights compensation to leave, the General Manager would not even come and talk to us. We have stayed in some of the finest hotels in the world and this I would rate as a 3 star on a good day. You can get better value elsewhere and I would certainly not recommend it. One last thing we wrote to Thomsons when we returned home regarding the money we had to pay as the rep said that we would be able to get this refunded and Thomsons did not want to know.

Worst holiday ever?As if! This place is fantastic.I've been 4 times with my family, and I have to say they were the best holidays of my life. My family agreed and they're a tough crowd to break! I've been to many, many places and I'd still say the Creta Palace was the best. I would rate the place 6* personally... The accomodation is fabulous, the beach is kept clean, the staff are unbelievably friendly, nothing is too much trouble! Don't believe the lies the people saying the place is terrible.

I cannot believe the reviews written. Me and my family are going back to crete for the 6th consecutive time. We always chose creta palace, because it simply is a great five star hotel. It is really naive to say that the sea and the beach was dirty, when it is certified and honoured with a blue flag, the ultimate distinction provided and monitored by the European Union, awarded only at places with excellent beach facilities and crystal clear waters. Besides, the certification process takes place each and every year and creta palace has NEVER lost it.
Not to mention the quality of food (all of which is biological, meaning without use of pesticides or antibiotics or, or, or...) or the grecoland for the kids etc.
So if you like to present CP as a house of ill fame, better check with your psychiatrist first!!!!
