“Faded and Dated”

Paradise Hotel

21 Jun 2008

Sub ground rooms are dingy and dark, cupboards for clothes are damp. Our room had a view of the side of the pool bar with its boxes etc.and the balcony area was small and overhung by a tree full of ripening apricots and their attendant ants etc.The light fittings were so ingrained with what appeared to be nicotine they looked more like yellow fittings than white.Spills on the side of the fridge were there when we arrived and still there when we left!Maid service was good with towels changed every day and rooms mopped every day except Sunday.A very disappointing stay, although the staff were very pleasant I wouldnt stay there again.Dont touch the mini bar the prices are well inflated and there is a good supermarket very close. No bedside table on one side and furniture very old, these rooms have no resemblance to the hotels own photos on its web site.

Me and my boyfriends stayed for two weeks in this hotel last summer. I would definitely not go there again. It looks really nice on the outside, and the lobby and the breakfast room have been recently renovated, but the room was a nightmare.

There are two sides to the hotel: a nicer one towards their own garden, and the back yard towards a construction site. We got probably the worst room in the whole hotel: it was on the basement floor towards the 3 meters wide strip of a garden before the construction site. On top of that, it was next to some kind of messy kitchen maintenance yard, so all we could see from our terrace were an old stove, boxes of bottles, onions lying all around the floor etc.

When we booked, we were told that there's an air conditioning in the room. The machine was old, huge and really noisy, but it didn't produce cool air. That was a major dissapointment. The temperatures were around 40 degrees celsius when we stayed, so the air conditioning would have come in need.

The furniture in the room was old and worn. Our beds were so squeaky that every time the other turned around during his sleep, the other woke up. We didn't get a good night's sleep in two weeks.

The shower was totally bloked with chalk from the water, so no water came out of it. My boyfriend had a swiss army knife with him, so luckily he was able to fix it.

The breakfast is always the same, and they had the same cd playing on and on during the breakfast time. We ate the same bread with the same ham and the same cheese for two weeks with the same record playing the same summer hits over and over and over again...

The pool area is nice and the bartender really friendly.

“Good hotel but could do better”

Paradise Hotel

19 Sep 2007

We have just returned from Samos and had an amazing holiday - really enjoyed the Greek Island and the food, people and atmosphere were all wonderful.

We stayed at the Hotel Paradise in Samos Town and this was a nice little hotel, in a good location. The staff were friendly (but not overly so) and the hotel was immaculately clean. I expect Greece to be basic and this was true of the Paradise - however, they made an effort yet never seemed to get the balance right on things.

I am not usually picky but on the one hand there was quite a varied basic breakfast (toast, cereals, ham, cheese, boiled eggs) but the quality wasn't ace and if you wanted honey or yoghurt ( a greek staple) then you had to pay extra!! The place was clean and energy saving tips lay around yet the plugs didn't fit the sink or bath and so you had to run the water whilst still in the bath cos it was leaking out! The showers were a feat of engineering to master... The sunbeds are circa 1970 and so hard, yet the pool itself was lovely..

If these blips were sorted then it would be great.

“Great beds, not so great breakfasts!”

Paradise Hotel

12 Aug 2007

We booked two weeks at the Paradise Hotel through Thompsons, and were delighted with the twin-bedded room and hotel facilities. The place is run by a family, and the owners are very 'hands on'. The pool and outside bar is sub-contracted to Christos, who serves drinks whilst consuming a healthy proportion of the profits.

Our only criticism is of the breakfast, which consisted of exactly the same mix of cold meat, cheese, bread, jam and cereal each day. The food would have been tolerable if served in a peaceful environment but we had to endure noisy groups of Italian, Greek and Dutch holiday makers every morning - a tiny number of whom did not appear to smoke whilst eating!

The hotel is ideally located, just minutes walk from the harbour front and the main shopping and restaurant area. It is also adjacent to the Bus Station.

In summary, we recommend Samos and the Paradise Hotel - particularly for those people who want to escape from young children.

Have just returned after a very enjoyable two week break at the Paradise which sits in its own garden with good size pool area, free sun beds together with a pool bar and shaded eating area, both well attended by the ever present Christof who is perfect for the job.
For a two star and in Greece, you have got to say that the Paradise is above average. The rooms are smallish and clean if a little outdated especially the built in wardrobes. Reception is pleasant, light and airy and well staffed.
However the hotel does have the perhaps more usual two star drawbacks, the main one being noise from other rooms and guests who do not respect the thin walls. If you are unfortunate enough to have a room next to an early riser, you may as well join them in their ablutions.
Breakfast too was a little disappointing not for the range a food available (cereals, ham, boiled eggs, cheese, jam tea, coffee and toast), but for its monotonous presentation in exactly the same way each morning.
Even these two annoying issues did not detract from what was a good holiday in a friendly hotel in a lovely town with good shops and restaurants and well worth visiting.
One final note of caution - the road safety is poor even for a Greek island and a small minority of local boy racers take great delight in stupid, noisy and dangerous manouvers supposedly to impress.
