My fiance and I stayed at the Phaedra Hotel last month (March 2008) and cannot say enough good things about the property, owner Hilda and the island of Hydra. We stayed in the "Phaedra" suite (each room has a name) and loved it. The room was charming, clean and comfortable with sunlight coming in from huge, bright windows. This property is nestled back among other authentic little island homes -- with sweet little neighborhood kitties and townspeople occasionally wandering past...underneath your own private balcony.
Hilda is very sweet, professional and accommodating. Greece is experiecing some political strife right now and we encountered quite a few labor issues...including bank, transporation and utility strikes. Because of this, while on Hydra, all electricity to island was cut the evening we were there. Within minutes of the lights being cut, Hilda was knocking on our door with candles, tea lights and lanterns...allowing us to stay up and talk and play cards rather than just sit there in the dark! The next morning, Hilda had a homemade, delicious breakfast waiting for us.
Hydra is very pleasant little island. I wouldn't spend more than a few days there, but it's a great little get away with some shopping, restaurants and hiking. We loved every minute and would definitely recommend that you spend your time there at the Phaedra.
