We discovered Bliss as we were roaming the pedestrian zone in the center of Copenhagen in the evening. What first caught our eye were the inviting outdoor tables with small oil lamps. Then we noticed that there was no typical tourist menu - everything was in Danish. Since we wanted the local experience, we decided to give it a try, indoors, however, as it was a bit chilly.
Bliss is in a typical Copenhagen half-basement in a corner building. The atmosphere indoors was equally welcoming, cozy but modern and with the Scandanavian touch for mixing artisitc styles and periods in a most tasteful manner. The full menu did come in English, so we could make educated meal choices. Apparently they serve all day, from breakfast and brunch to dinner and tapas. We started with cold appetizers and moved on to meals. Everything was prepared and cooked to perfection, particularly recommendable were the smoked salmon carpaccio appetizer, the beef carpaccio and the Danish steak with balsamico sauce with root vegtables - divine!
The drink menu was extensive, including hard to find and creative cocktails. The wine menu was not large but very well selected, including harder to find ones like vignonier and a pure grenache. They also boast a fine selection of absinth and absinth cocktails. I tried The Boston, which was something like an espresso vodka martini, but with a bit of absinth - true bliss! Cocktials were worthy of any true connoisseur.
Too bad we didn't have room for dessert - we'll have to save room next time. This is just a wonderful place to experience Copenhagen, delicious food, exquisite drinks, whether for a full meal or for a last drink of the evening with a bit of tapas or dessert, and it was affordable too!
