Grand hotel, on the harbour, easy walk to all the downtown attractions. We could walk to the train station (for a day trip to Sweden) with daypacks but it definitely requires a taxi (60-100 DKK) if you want to cary luggage to/from the hotel.
Hotel fronts onto a walking/jogging/bike path that runs along the harbour - great view from the harbour side (looks across - east- to the city's opera house). Got some pretty sunrise pictures. The windows are small though - only one person at a time can lean out to look around. There appeared to be sliding doors and actual balconies on some rooms but those must have been the 'premium' suites!
Excellent breakfast buffet (although it didn't vary one bit so became a bit 'repetitive' after the fourth morning). Ate one dinner in the main restaurant and vowed we would never eat there again - food was fine but service ranged from apathetic to hostile. There are so many great restaurants within easy walking distance, there is no reason to subject yourself to that kind of attitude!
And I can't figure out why all the small chain hotels and mom and pop operations can supply free wireless internet yet these grand city hotels feel they have to squeeze a few more dollars out of their already overcharged clients!
Service hours were a problem - we arrived late (9:30 on a Wednesday) and asked about food. Restaurant was closed, only cold sandwiches available from Bar and Room service. Went to the bar and our choice was shrimp or tuna or 'go somewhere else' (I'm allergic to seafood so dinner was 'somewhere else').
The rooms and public areas are criss-crossed with huge old beams - tons of character. Fast elevators, everything clean, front desk staff pleasant and efficient. Overall great experience and fair value for the price.
