“Fantastic hotel and location”

Intercontinental Grand Hotel Stockholm

This hotel is very well located, right in the heart of the old part of the city and within easy walking distance of the city centre.

The room was excellent, quite large, with a slightly small bathroom, but very well laid out and designed, with high quality furnishing, something you would expect of a 5 star hotel, although sometimes you don't always get this everywhere.

The only downer was the sunlight streaming through the curtains at 5 am the following day - there are now blinds and there was no way of getting back to sleep after that.

Had breakfast next day in the Veranda restaurant, which has an excellent view of the seafront. A wide selection of foods to chose from atthe buffet breakfast and very quick, efficient service.

The evening of my arrival went to the bar area and this is one thing which has changed for the better since my previous stays at this hotel. The bar area is much larger, with great seating area overlooking the seafront and with a chill out look and feel to the place, very tastefully done. The new managment (now Intercontinental) also shows in the attention to details.

Finally just to say that in previous years, you sometimes had either a very good room or a pretty lacklustre affair. It seems this has improved and now all the rooms have been refurbished. However, having said that, there is a huge array in the layout and size of the rooms, ranging from small singles, to medium and large doubles, through to suites. So caveat emptor !!

“Disappointment”

Intercontinental Grand Hotel Stockholm

The Grand is one of Europe´s classic hotels. I dealt directly with the hotel and got a junior suite for about $175 (normal rate: about $800). Can´t complain about that, but the hotel in general disappoints. Staff is refreshingly distanced (typically Swedish), but slightly rude. Restaurants are good but will break your bank, seriously. Two-course meal with a bottle of decent wine: about $400. This hotel lives on tradition and not on the overall deliverance of product in relation to price, although I was lucky to get a fantastic rate. Suggestion: Head across to the Radisson Strand and negotiate a deal, you´ll get much more for your money. The ambience if you get a good room is better too!

We stayed at this hotel for two nights before setting out to the Ice Hotel.
What can I say about this lovely hotel that has not been said before?
It was all you should expect from a 5 star hotel within Europe, clean sophisticated, great amenities, yes another top notch hotel.
The location was excellent to get around, our room view was lovely overlooking the bridge. We were lucky enough to be staying at a time the Romainian president was visiting Stockholm so we witnessed the city giving homage to the Romainian people with Swedish and Romainian flags set out all around the city.
The food was perfect, drinks expensive, it is the place to stay however in Stockholm according to other well travelled guests we met.

“Great location, furniture & views, but overpriced”

The Grand Hotel is beautifully furnished, centrally located & has a wonderful view of Stockholm. Also, the food is topnotch.

However, we felt it was overpriced for what it is. They forget to service our room one night, when we called for the bellboy they never came (we waited a half hour for them), our towel heater was broken & no one seemed to really go above & beyond for guests. Also, no one ever told us breakfast was included in our rate. For $750/night I expect service to be over the top.
