“Good stay in a good location”

Freys Hotel

Positives:

Short walk to train station. Professional, helpful, friendly front desk personnel. Nice, large breakfast area that doubles as a bustling restaurant/bar in the evening. Clean, nice room with attractive, warm decor. Easy walk to restaurants, touristy but interesting Ice Bar. Decent shoulder season pricing for the central location. Free Internet in lobby.

Negatives:

Smallish room and bathroom. Bathroom needed significant updating to match the rest of the room's updates. Single Internet terminal was often occupied during our brief stay. Bustling city location not terribly attractive, but practical.

Stayed at the Freys for two nights and loved it! As others have said, the location can't be beat: across the street from the Arlanda Express (airport train), practically on top of the central Tunnelbana (metro) station, two blocks from one of the main pedestrian shopping streets, and a short walk (15-20 min.) to the Old Town.

My single room was tiny, but the space was efficiently used and was decorated in warm earth tones. The main light switch was a dimmer and the room had an upholstered banquette by the window, both of which were nice touches. The room, and much of the rest of the hotel, seemed recently renovated or redecorated. Perhaps this explains the one disappointment: the bathroom in the room, hopefully next on the renovation list but not yet updated. Like the room itself, it was tiny. But it was also dated, with oddly colored tile (peach and royal blue) and a worn sink that didn't at all fit with the rest of the room (or hotel, for that matter). It also didn't have a shower stall, merely a curtain hanging from the ceiling that defined the "shower" and sort of kept the water contained to one corner of the room. A squeegee was helpfully provided so that the floor, walls, and mirror could be "dried" once the shower was off. Even though the bathroom wasn't the best, it was spotlessly clean and featured little Bjorn Borg toiletries. Another nice touch: I forgot my toothbrush and requested one at the front desk, and they provided one along with a tube of toothpaste, tied together by a pretty bow.

Breakfast was included, and the first day I dined in the ground floor breakfast room. The second day I had a breakfast tray delivered to my room; the hotel offers this for a SEK 75 (about USD 10) "service fee." It was delivered at the requested time and included a nice assortment of food plus coffee and a carafe of juice. I didn't try the restaurant, but both evenings when I returned to the hotel the place was nearly full, a good sign.

All in all, a wonderful place, and I will likely return the next time I'm in Stockholm.

My husband and I spent three nights prior to boarding a cruise ship for the Baltic at the Freys Hotel. It is exceptionally well located nearly across the street from the main train terminal in Stockholm and within easy walking distance to the historic Gamla Stan (old city) district. We arrived by train from the airport, walked out of the front door and asked someone on the street if they knew where the hotel was. They pointed to a small street almost directly across from the train station and we could see the large neon "Freys" sign. No need to hire a taxi if you can manage your luggage a short distance.

The room was small but very clean, well appointed and esthetically pleasing with modern Swedish decor. The included buffet breakfast was fresh, tasty and varied and the dining room was also comfortable and with a stylish touch.

We found the front desk staff to be polite and helpful. They provided directions to a couple of locations and helped us get our laptop connected to check emails. There is a small charge for the connection.

The rate was quite reasonable for the location; close to the old city and also the shopping streets. Although it is close to a major downtown street it was fairly quiet.

All in all, a very plesant stay and a good value. Would stay here again on our next visit to Stockholm.

I have stayed at Freys Hotel many times - and its a great place! Very central and very cozy. The last stay was with my wife for a short holiday in Stockholm. Everything was fine - expect for the bed. Our room only had a 130 cm bed. In many countries this is a normal width for a single - and this room (number 112) was sold to us as a double. And - you know - the bed is an important piece of furniture in a hotel! So, please check the bed before you order. Otherwise - go ahead with Freys!

We enjoyed our stay at the Freys Hotel, and would stay there again.

The Freys Hotel is very convenient, as it is right across the street from the Arlanda Express station and Central station. Getting to and from the airport was easy via Arlanda Express, and getting around the city was great from Central station via Tunnelbana subway, as all of the lines were accessible at Central station. We were able to walk to many sites as well, as the hotel is very centrally located --- 10 minutes to Gamla Stan (old town) and the shopping areas.

The room was small (double room), but clean and functional. The internet access in the room was spotty, but there is one computer with internet access in the lobby that guests can use. Wireless is available, but there is a charge to use it. The included breakfast was great --- really nice selection of items so we never tired of the choices. The staff were friendly and helpful.
