We were booked at the Tegnerlunden by our Conference for 8 days. So, we didn't actually choose it ourselves, but after checking it out on Tripadvisor I was OK with how it sounded. There were no surprises. It was as described in all respects. Good Breakfast, courteous staff, clean (and small) rooms, noisy construction, close to shopping & restaurants, etc. Our room averaged about $270.00 US per night. We realized Stockholm is pricey, but the fact that a huge conference was in town made it more expensive. Did I mention the rooms were small? If one of us was sitting at the desk in the room, the other would have to walk over the bed to get to the other side:-) No bar soap, shampoo, lotion, tissues. Just liguid soap, drinking glasses and 5 clothes hangers. We have never paid that much for an American hotel, because you can get an amazing room at half that price in the best locations. But we love Europe and recognize things are different there. Our weekly paid internet connection failed a few days after we initiated it because of weak links (according to the provider) throughout the hotel. No one could really explain that one. The complimentary computer in the lobby was very popular and often hard to get. One nice feature….an ice machine was available, a very rare commodity in Europe.
This hotel is very convenient to the main pedestrian shopping street, so it was very easy to find everything we needed. Getting a cab was simple and quick. Buses ran nearby.
It was about a 20 minute walk to central station every morning. Our favorite nearby restaurant was Tira Misu, as recommended by the desk clerk. It is run by a very dedicated, talented Italian family. Delicious and not over-priced. We also tried the nearby “Grill” which was popular with the young professional set. It was trendy and VERY expensive, but fun. (Wished we’d gone back to Tira Misu, though, instead.)
I really wish we could have stayed nearer the waterfront. That seemed to be where the more interesting sites were. The conference rates would have been prohibitive, however. For others traveling during non-conference weeks, those hotels may be more affordable. The Tegnerlunden is perfectly functional but lackluster. Most of the desk clerks were very efficient and helpful. The housekeeping staff was very good. (Don’t forget to take shampoo).
