We stayed at the Hotel Anno over a long weekend in April 2007 after flying in, on Ryan Air, from Glasgow. This was our second visit to Stockholm and the Hotel Anno. We weren't disappointed in either. The breakfast was as good as we remembered -- and that rarely happens, if ever! And, the addition of a touch screen computer on the wall in the reception area is definitely a nice touch (no pun intended). Plus, the easy access to Gamla Stan and the islands .... location, location, location!

“Small rooms, even smaller bathrooms, Clean, comfortable, well located”

Anno 1647

23 Jul 2007

I stayed for 3 nights in an economy single bed room with shared bathroom at a price of 645 Kroners per night (although I think than ensuites are available at more expensive rates). I thought this was a terrific rate in expensive Stockholm, but there were a few catches.

The room was small, with a bed, small writing desk and a wash basin. My room looked out to the main fare leading down to the markets and was very busy and noisy with the window open.

The toilet and shower was located in the hall and were shared with about 7 or 8 other rooms. The toilet rooms were extremely small, think airplane toilets and a bit smaller...

On the upside the bed was extremely comfortable and everything the entire hotel was clean and well maintained.

The breakfast was somewhat boring with warm rolls, jam, cheese, cold meat and boiled eggs on offer.

The hotel is well located, in the south of Stockholm at the edge of the in 'alternative' area of Stockholm, think SOHO, or as they call it in Stockholm, SOFO. It near the water and close to ferries and 5 minutes walk to the Old Town and its kitchy tourist shops.

If you plan to spend more time in the more commercial/shopping side either mainstream or more exclusive brands, which are both north of the city, you might want to consider staying north, as it is quite a hike walking there are back from Anno with shopping (on several occasions). Although it is only 2 or 3 stops with the underground if you prefer.

I found it a good base for dropping the shopping, crashing after a day of touring the sites and heading out to bars and restaurants in the evening. Although, I am unable to compare it with other hotels in Stockholm, I give it my tick of approval.

Sodermalm is a good place to be in Stockhom. And this hotel has a great location in Sodermalm. Close to the metro and buses to outlaying areas, walking distance to old town and boats to other islands, including Durgarden, you will love the ability to get around by foot. There is a cab station within a block of the hotel (near the Hilton) if you need to go further a field and do not want to use the metro. Hotel is a bit small. Due to late booking, we changed rooms three times (rather than go to another hotel).( We discovered that the other hotels we selected for the remaining nights were not that far away but all uphill!) The rooms vary in size. Some like dorm rooms and the suite, well it was very nice and roomy. Bathrooms in the small rooms, were proportionately tiny but clean. Breakfast was great. Lots of hot and cold food. Located on the bottom floor with interesting view of the market area. Beds were comfortable and decor an interesting attempt to be antiquee and comfortable. Drinking water, fresh and clear and free. The suite had a view of the market place and bridges to the other island. There were foldout beds hidden nicely in cabinets in every room. Negative stuff? Well, dragging your bags up the cobblestone walkway from the metro or bus is a drag. And then you must carry them upstairs as there is no elavator. But the streets are full of small everyday eating resturant (yes, McDonalds and 7-11 but you must try Max, the Swedish buger place) and shops. Also down in the metro there is a grocery store and other shops. Not touristy stuff. That you can find in Old Town. There is an ATM and bank on the corner for money and exchanges. Did not try to use the internet. Watch out for the bike riders during the week as they are on their way to work (downhill) and really wanting to get home (uphill). Also, this is a young person's Saturday night area. A bit noisy and bustling. Staff very helpful. All speak English perfectly (true of most of Stockholm).

“Reliable choice for Stockholm”

Anno 1647

The Anno 1647 is a boutique, value-for-money hotel in Slussen (in the vibrant district of Sodermalm) .. very close to the metro station with easy access to Gamla Stan. Staff is efficient and friendly, and breakfasts had a reasonable spread too. Forms part of the Worldhotels group and participates in the Skanplus hotel pass - which offers great tariffs (and a 6th night of stay free within the network) in summer. Recommended for a budget stay in expensive Stockholm !

Hotel is a warm friendly environment in an excellent location - just 100 metres from Slussen undeground station and 5 minutes walk from the Old Town. Staff were very helpful. Rooms were clean, sufficiently spacious and the beds comfortable. No en suite bathrooms but the facilities to share were also extremely clean and well functioning (e.g. showers). Breakfast was included with my rate - this was plentiful and with great variety to suit all requirements (cooked, continental, cereals, yoghurts, juices, coffee, tea, etc....).
Overall this was an excellent value package compared to prices of other hotels in the area (and even compared to others that were further out).
