Not entirely terrible but hardly worthy of the name it gives itself. The hotel occupies part of a large building and is barely inside the city and well out of reasonable walking distance from anywhere of interest so it's necessary to use public transport. I stayed here in December 2005 on my own whilst on my way to Finland and was disappointed with nearly everything about the hotel.
Beyond the rather impressive looking lobby, the interior and decor of the corridors and rooms belies the elderly 1950s vintage building beneath the recent attempts to refresh it and the rooms in particular look very dated with the overpowering darkened mahogany veneered furniture that no doubt looked alright when it was new but now just looks tired and worn with marks and peeling at some edges, much like the wallpaper. My room had not been cleaned very well and not only did the shower not work but there was no plug for the bath so I had to resort to using one of the glasses. This Hotel is rated at 4 stars but I have stayed in 3 star establishments with better fittings inside the room and bathroom where the rooms are better maintained and I'd also expect a minibar in a 4 star hotel but there wasn't one here. Although to be fair, the single room I had was a very generous size and the rate wasn't too expensive compared to other, albeit it better located, hotels in Stockholm.
The staff were extremely unhelpful, almost to the point of rudeness, in helping me find the hotel over the phone, were cold and aloof at reception and generally acted as if you were nothing but a nuisance to them. I've received better service at a Travelodge.
The one saving grace of the hotel is the excellent Bishops Arms British theme pub attatched to the hotel, not too expensive and good food, highly recommended for the Anglophile or homesick Briton and open to the public. The hotel restaurant had an unspectacular breakfast buffet and another bar and/or restaurant inside didn't appear to be open while I was there.
Strong recommendation to avoid. The location isn't very good, it doesn't deliver the service you'd expect, any decent three star hotel would probably be cheaper and provide better service and the only good thing about the hotel is open to the public.
