“Comfortable hotel in Stockholm”

Elite Palace Hotel Stockholm

The organizer of a scientific laboratory reunion arranged a reservation at the Elite Palace Hotel on Sankt Eriks Gatan for me. The reunion had to be cancelled, but my husband and I had unrefundable plane tickets and we made the trip anyway.

This hotel had been chosen because it was close to Karolinska Institutet. It was within a few blocks of the bus and subway, and there were some good restaurants within walking distance, so it was reasonably convenient.

The room was rather small, but it was comfortable enough. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was excellent. There was an English-type pub (The Bishops Arms) connected to the hotel, and we ate there one evening. The food was good and the Swedish microbrewed ale was surprisingly good.

I stayed at the hotel while in Stockholm for a conference. I've stayed at other Elite hotels and this hotel was not quite up to the standard that I've come to expect.
The floor (9th) that I was staying on felt old.
The hotel room was ok, clean with an ok bed and a coffee/tea maker. The only problem was the bathroom, it's quite small and the floor gets absolutely soaked when you're using the showe/bathtub.

As a other reviewers have pointed out the location is ok. A couple of minutes walk to the bus-stop och subway. The downside is that the traffic can be quite disturbing if your room is facing the road. You can't leave a window open.

The breakfast is good but nothing special.

I payed 995 SEK per night which is a good price. Wireless internet is available at a cost.

Also i had some initial problems with the keycard that the front desk couldn't get to work.

I stayed at the Elite Palace on a sightseeing visit to Stockholm June 1-6. The hotel was a very good base overall, with a few specific factors that may make a difference to you, depending on your preferences. Location is fine if you're using the subway or other public transportation...it's only about 3-4 stops from the central train station. The nearest subway station (St. Eriksplan) is about a 5-10 minute walk up the street, and there are some good restaurants and a variety of small stores along the way. The front desk staff is friendly and everyone speaks very good English. Our room was on the small side by US standards but was consistent with the size of other European hotels I'd visited. The absence of air conditioning was the biggest negative, as it was warm while we were there and the sun was very bright at almost all times of day and night, since it was June. The windows opened only a crack, and while this helped the temperature and air circulation a little, the street noise was noticable. Our bathroom had a shower but no tub, with a plastic separating wall that worked fine. Other rooms may have different characteristics or configurations. The breakfast buffet was good and very comprehensive--no problems running out of food while I was there. The English pub is great--good food, friendly staff and a large selection of beers and other beverages. All in all, I would stay there again, except that I'd probably think twice in the heat of summer based on the lack of A/C.

Getting the hotel from Arlanda Airport is easy enough - we took the Airport Shuttle Bus which was supposed to stop outside the hotel but it didn't. After asking the driver, he said that he would call us when we arrived at the stop nearest the hotel but he made all the announcements in Swedish so we missed it and ended up at the Central station. Thankfully it was an easy subway ride to the stop nearest the hotel - Sankt Eriksplan. We used the airport train to get back to the airport which was just as easy and a lot faster.

The hotel isn't quite in the centre but it's near enough. The subway stop is only 5 mins walk down the road but we walked into the centre on our first day in about 20 mins. It's in a nice area with a few good restaurants and supermarkets nearby.

The hotel itself was ok. We had a Superior room which was reasonably large and clean. However, there were a few things missing that you might expect from a 4 start hotel. I don't think any of the rooms had airconditioning which would be a problem at the height of summer - the hotel is on a busy road and although the windows cut out some of the sound, the noise is too much if you have the window open. There were also no tea making facilities in the room and no safe (but you could deposit things at reception for safe keeping). The breakfast was fine - plenty of food and very nice.

All in all, there are worse places you could stay but there are probably better. It depends how cheap you can get the room for and how long you're willing to put up with a few niggles.

“You could do worse”

You could do worse than stay in this hotel. But I also think you can get better hotels to the same price. It is a bit old fashioned and the bathrooms strongly need a make over.

No aircondition and if you have the windows open there are a lot of noise from the streets.

Soft beds.

OK breakfast, in what I think must be a to small breakfast room. Must
be caotic if hotel is fully booked.

WLAN in room. Flat screen TV
