This was our second stay at this excellent hotel, and it was every bit as good as the first. The location is perfect - just two minutes walk from the main railway station. It's down a nice quiet road, though, with no traffic noise. There's a park at the back which leads to the botanical gardens (just a few minutes walk).

All the staff here seem very happy in what they do, and it comes over in their approach to customers, which is first rate. Every single contact we had with the staff, from reception on, was friendly and efficient - nothing too much trouble. Always a smile too. I'd lost a bag with Finnair on arrival at the airport, and was holding the lost baggage form when we checked in. The guy on the desk noticed this without my even mentioning it, phoned Finnair, checked their website and told me it had been found - quite a relief. All this without having to be asked.

Rooms are a reasonable size, and the air conditioning works well - it was 28 degrees outside when we were there. There are ice machines around the hotel too. Bathrooms are of a good standard, as you'd expect, and (small point) the curtains are effective in blocking out the bright Scandinavian sunshine first thing in the morning.

Breakfast is excellent - all the usual things such as cheeses, meats, cakes, bread, rolls, eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes, hash browns, baked beans, cereals, juices, fresh fruit, nuts etc etc etc. I could go on - let's just say you won’t go hungry with the buffet.

Only a few minor niggles. The breakfast area is too small for the number of rooms, and you may have a problem finding a table. Some people were asked to share tables - not what most people want in a hotel of this standard. They do need to find more space. The fruit juices are mixed with water from concentrates as they are dispensed, and frankly they're not impressive. This is an economy that should not be made in a good hotel. They may save a bit over the course of the year, but it gives a poor impression of the place to be served with something so very inferior. Sheets were not changed in our stay, which was for more than a week, and the pillows smelt as if they could do with a good wash.

These are, I stress, pretty minor points, and overall I can still thoroughly recommend this hotel.

If you are visiting as a tourist, this hotel is ideally located right in the middle of town. Everywhere you are likely to want to go is easily reachable on foot. The staff were very helpful and friendly and helped us book train and ferry travel from Helsinki. As in any Raddisson hotel the rooms are cleaned to perfection.

It's worth taking time over breakfast as the buffet was really good, one of the best I've come across anywhere. Highly recommended.

I stayed here for one night on a combined business and social trip. I am a fan of Radisson hotels, particularly when on business, and this place reminded me why. My room was plush and elegant, service was good and it had a very nice bar.

The location was also perfect - a two minute walk to lots of bars, five minutes to shops and ten minutes stroll to the harbour.

Highly recommended!

Had a one night stay here this week on business and was not overly impressed. I was not bothered about the location etc, but needed all the basics. Hotel room was comfortable but getting room service was a nightmare. I arrived at around 9pm local time, very hungry but ended up having to hassle reception to get room service as their number was permanently engaged for over 30 minutes. When the food did come it was very pleasant, but I would have liked it rather earlier.

The other issue was the wireless internet access. The hotel proudly talks about having free access throughout the hotel - but there are no instructions on how to get it! Again I called reception - they said someone would come up to sort it out. No one showed up for 20 minutes - I called reception again and they finally gave me the password for the service. Again - good idea to provide the access, but could have been delivered better.

Final problems were in the morning. Firstly - the breakfast area is way too small for the hotel and there was no one placing people and ensuring that people on their own did not take up tables for 4. Then there was a complete shambles with taxis. They asked me to book a cab the night before which I duly did. At the appointed time, I turned up at the front door - no cab. 15 minutes later - still no cab, yet a steady stream of "walk up" guests with no bookings were being put in cabs by the bell boy. The whole system seemed flawed.

Anyway - it served its business purpose, but I would not have thought it very suitable for leisure travellers.

I stayed at this hotel with my wife along with another couple for four nights (01/06/06 - 05/06/06). We had a rate of €250.00 per room per night for the 1st night and the following 3 nights were at a rate of €108.00 per room per night including breakfast. Our room was excellent while not overly large it wasn't postage stamp size either. Breakfast was buffet style and had quite a variety, you will easily find something to eat. Reception staff were welcoming and efficient and had no problem making dinner reservations for us each night. The location of the hotel is excellent in that it is quite close to the main railway station where the Finnair Bus drop off from the airport is located and at a transfer cost of €5.20 per person each way for a 35 minute transfer journey is well worth it. The main tourist sites and shopping area are located quite near also, in fact Helsinki is a relatively small city and can easily be explored by foot. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Helsinki as a short break destination and the Radisson SAS Plaza Hotel as your base while there.
