I have been to this hotel twice on business and find the location excellent. The trams run from virtually outside the hotel. The bedrooms are a good size and the bathroom is a large wet room. I have only used the restaurant for breakfast and have no complaints, set me up for the day. The staff are very friendly, Finns in general are.

Stockmann's is a short walk from the hotel if you are looking for gifts, similar to Macy's. Take a walk down to the harbour and visit the Russian Orthodox Church. Lots of cafés and restaurants on the Esplanade. Helsinki is one of my favourite city's, very modern but with an old world feel.

“Good location, good staff, good everything”

Scandic Hotel Marski

I admit that if even a small thing is not up to standard at any hotel I stay at then I make sure they know about it. I've had countless bottles of wine (which I like) and some bowing and scraping (which I don't) over the years.

No wine for me at this hotel. Absolutely no complaints at all. All the staff I dealt with were very pleasant, right from check-in when I was asked if I needed internet access and was given passwords for each of the three days of my stay. Nice that I didn't have to ask. And the wireless service in the room was fast and efficient. There are also two terminals, with printers, in the lobby.

The room was of a decent size, perhaps a little dark with the dark wood although the lighting was very good indeed. The bathroom I had was large, possibly because it was obviously set up for handicapped guests. Underfloor heating too.

They make a big thing of their breakfast, with some justification. There is a great selection. The only down side is they use powder for the scrambled eggs, and it is completely tasteless. It is a buffet service but there were enough staff around to replenish the food and clear tables. It was noticeable too that the cooking staff were often sharing jokes among themselves. Happy staff says a lot about the management.

The location is perfect, either for shopping, sightseeing or business. Almost every tram route in the city passes the door or is within a hundred metres, and the main railway station, and the airport bus there, is only a few minutes walk away. If you are wheeling suitcases, by the way, cross immediately to the far side of the main road upon which the hotel stands to avoid the cobblestones on the Stockmanns side.

I will certainly stay there again when I'm back in the city in December. Absolutely no reason not to.

We stayed at Marski hotel for one night in July 2007. We really loved the place. I booked my room thru hotels.com because on their website it showed that they had a family room that would sleep 5. I had checked the rates also on scandic hotel website but hotels.com showed the best rate if prepaid. When we checked in they said that they do not have a family room that sleeps 5 as listed on hotels.com website. Thank goodness I had my confirmation and after seeing it they offered us another double room at no additional cost. We actually prefered that since we were traveling with teenager boys who were happy to get their own room with 2 beds and a rollaway bed. Because of the trouble their also gave us 30 euros to spend at the hotel which we spent on snacks and drinks.

The rooms were good size and clean. The shower in the bathroom was very european. Nice hardwood floors in the rooms, like it some much better than nasty carpet you see in US hotels. The rooms have free wireless internet.

The location is perfect. We flew to Helsinki, took the Finnair bus to the railway station from the airport and the hotel is just a short walk from the railway station even with luggage. The hotel is very convenient location really to anywhere. The trolley stop is just on the other side of the street if you want to take the trolley to open market etc. Everything is within walking distance though.

The free breakfast is excellent, very scandinavian which I love. They have a luggage storage where you can store your luggage after checking out until you leave Helsinki. Again, very convenient, we had our luggage there until we left Helsinki by train later that day. Did sightseeing all day, picked up our luggage and walked to train station to catch our train.

I highly recommend this hotel.
