We spent five days in Helsinki and loved it. It is a clean, safe, friendly, environmentally conscious and inexpensive city. Almost every street has a bike lane, and people walk all over. We saw children in small groups taking the trams even at 11:00 at night. Most people speak some English and are happy to help with directions, etc. There are some museums, but what makes Helsinki special is the lovely outdoor spaces, ranging from Suomellinna to Hierantiemi to Kaivopuisto, where all ages hang out until 11:00 at night, biking, blading, listening to street performers and eating ice cream. We were surprised at how inexpensive food and entertainment were, particularly compared to London. Helsinki is just so pleasant.
