Hotel Rodendahl was one of the leading hotels in Finland back in the 1970's. Ok, this is history, but there are a lot of good things from that time hotel planning in the building that is not used in a proper way. The runner of the house is misusing the building and location.
The location is beautiful, not exactly a city hotel but quite close, even in a walking distance. Nice views to the lake and ridge. Large rooms and wide corridors. An interesting architecture. And it still looks good.
But the service at the reception is not caring at all. Short sentences with no smile. Now I am happy that I chose the Hilton card in stead of the Scandic card after the separation of these two chains a couple of years ago.
Decoration inside is perhaps from the 1980's. Where have I seen this before? In Soviet Union or Jugoslavia.
The breakfast is so dull that I skipped it in the second morning. It is a good example of bad Finnish, or should I say Swedish or Scandinavian food culture. The lunches were a bit better. One night I tried to order something from the room service. I found only a flyer with the message that the 24-hour room service is in the lobby. I had checked that already, that was rubbish. Ready-made mass and factory produced staff that I wouldn't recommend to anyone. After three phone calls someone decided to answer at the reception. Then connected to the room-service. One of the waiters brought me the menu with the message that the info needed is at the first channel of the TV. Great! Where is the information about that? I got my order very quickly, and the food was eatable.
I had a wireless connection in my room, and for my three days stay, I got three different usernames and passwords. Why?
If you want experience the Soviet time with some uncaring service, welcome to Scandic Rosendahl. On the way, you can always visit the Lenin museum.
