“Not a nice hotel, anymore... Location is fab if you want seaview!”
Stayed at Rantasipi Tropiclandia in October 2011. Have been there 5 yrs ago, and was disapointed because they haven't done anything to either the hotelrooms or the spa during this period. In fact they have just left it to degrade. Both rooms and spa are in desperate need to be refurbished. The room we got with seaview was not worth the 150 euro we paid for it. It was small and smelled awful in the bathroom. The bathroom was also very much run down... mould, broken tap over sink and shower jet was had not been cleaned for ages.
The pullout bed (from a armchair) for our kid was so terrible he could not sleep because it was so uncomfortabel, even dispite he was only 1,45 m tall. Despite it is a spa-hotel the bathtowels are the smallest we've ever had in any hotel. Breakfast was ok, nothing above ok. In the spa the temp of the large pool was not as warm as it usually is (have visited it apr. once or twice a year, without staying over at the hotel). The signs showing the temp was all 3 out of order. The front desk told us you couldn't anymore pay at the poolbar by charging your room-number, because the spa is now owned by a different company (not by the hotel anymore).
Now you wonder if there was anyting positive... Yes, there were also positive things. The front desk lady was really professional, kind, friendly, cheerful. She was the main reason why we paid without complaining by check out. It was not her fault the hotel is beeing not kept properly up to date. The billiards table by the lifts was nice! :) The view from the hotelroom was stunning, a beautiful seaview! There was lots of parking available in front of entrance. The positive is that the hotel is now doing some new plumbings in some rooms (closest to the spa). And it is to hope they also do some upgrading of rooms with new furniture and amenities. If they want customers to pay 150+ for a night stay...
(Ps. the spa had now shortened the opening hours, both in the evening and in the morning by 30 min. Feels as not much, but that is one hour less to spend in the spa, which is often the main reason to spend a holiday at this hotel... so it do matter!) There are better hotels in Vaasa (Radisson Blu and Vaakuna), and for less money you can stay in theese and get a better room/breakfast and either buy the holiday as a package with hotel & spa-visit or pay separately these two.
