Well what a difference 18 months has made to Iceland. I was last in Reykjavik in Aug 2008 and could hardly afford to breathe the air. But in that time the Icelandic krona has crashed. Bad news for Icelanders but great for the tourist. Never has there been a better time to see this amazing country and meet its fabulously warm and friendly (if a little eccentric) people. But I digress the Hotel Bjork is situated about 10-15 minutes walk from the main hub and centre of Rejkyavik. Close enogh to get to where you need but far enough to be nice and quiet at night. The rooms were of an average size with no frills. The beds were comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean. The bathroom was compact with only room for a walk in shower and no bath, but that was fine for me. Although the weather turned cold at night the heating was excellent and kept me nice and snug. The attached resteraunt was a little limited in choice, but it was good value and very pleasant and certainly worth a try if you cant be bothered to go searching reykjavik. However what sets this Hotel apart from many others is the level of service from the reception staff. Nothing was too much trouble and they were full of helpful advice and insights into Iceland. At just over £200 for the 4 nights it was excellent value and i would certainly consider using this hotel again....and I shall certainly visit this fantastic Island again. Thank You Iceland

I travelled to Reykjavik with my sister and we had a twin room. The rooms were cosy, had enough for a short break and the comfiest beds ever! Bathroom was fine too, and the breakfast was ample and filling.

We ate in the restaurant twice after coming back from trips being very tired. We really enjoyed the food, especially the lamb steaks.

Reception was friendly enough and helped us outwith booking tours/airport shuttle etc.

The only negative was the distance to town. It was fine when the weather was warmer, but being tired we found we could not always face the hike to the centre. It does take about 10min to the edge of the centre, but to most of the bars and restaurants its at least 15-20 minutes.

Overall, a really nice stay and I would probably stay here again despite it being out of town!

My friend and I stayed here for three nights as part of a weekend trip to Iceland, the hotel was clean, comfortable and offered a really nice breakfast each morning in the restaurant. We also had a meal there the night before we left which was great. There is a kettle, tea and coffee in the room and the bathroom in our room was good size. The shower, however was somewhat smaller so someone of a slightly larger size may struggle to enter and exit the shower easily. We were able to walk to the local outdoor heated pool in 15 minutes, as well as to the local shopping centre. All in all the hotel was well priced, conveniently located and would be recommended for tired tourists after a big day of exploring! Also - the staff were happy to book anything we needed, tours etc, and there is a computer with internet which is free for all guests to use in the foyer, we never waited to use this as it was normally available.

We stayed at the Bjork for 4 nights. The room was fine for us as we just wanted a base. It was a reasonable size by UK standards and more importantly, it was clean & comfortable. We had requested a 'bay view room' which we were given - it had great views across the bay to the mountains the other side. The staff were very pleasant and there were tea/coffee making facilities in the room. The breakfast was OK - cereals, bread, salad, cheese, meat & fish (!). It was a good ten minutes or so to walk to the main part of town but we actually preferred 'our end of town'. We had great evening meals in 3 of the bistro type restaurants - Kaffi Solon (meal deals), Vegamot (try the monk fish) and Kaffi Rossenburg (live music on some nights). If you're comfortable driving abroad, I would suggest hiring a car (before going for the better deals). The main tarmac roads are good & easy to navigate but take care not to stray onto the gravel tracks unless you have a 4x4. Take care if you're in a car as parking can be an issue at the hotel. Many of the spaces in the street are for public parking but some areas have 'tow-away' signs by them (if in doubt -ask at reception). We visited Geysir, Gullfoss, Pingvellier & the Blue Lagoon - all fantastic. We also drove to Akranes where there is a fascinating museum and the 'Settlement Centre' at Borgarnes - both were great and we had them to ourselves (NB: some of these places open for shorter hours ourside of the main tourist season). All in all - a great place to visit.

The Hotel Bjork is clean, the staff are friendly and accommodating, and the complimentary breakfast is great. It's a bit off the beaten path in Reykjavik, which I found to be an advantage. It's a close walk to the harbor and a little farther walk to the center of the city, which could be done at a leisurely pace in 15 minutes or so. The rooms are small, with even smaller bathrooms, however are certainly roomy enough for a few day stay with as much time as one spends in a hotel when traveling. Both Flybus and the tour I took picked up at Hotel Bjork, which was an advantage.
